My family and I were not impressed with this zoo at all. The smell is awful. The place is not kept up at all. Grass was long. Very disappointed considering it takes so long to get there. Cages are small for animals and fences are not in the best of shape. The office staff was very friendly. Just wish they would consider using some of the profits made to fix up this place a little better.

We greatly appreciate your visit and the fact that you took the time to share your concerns with us. Our animal enclosures are designed so that our visitors can get up close and personal with our critters, while still allowing them all the space they need to comfortably explore throughout the day. In the evenings, most of our animals are released into their spacious and fenced back-pastures, where they can run, graze and just be themselves on our 143 acre property. We do our best to keep everything neat and tidy while still allowing for natural, un-mowed areas for our critters to have a “wild” environment after-hours. All monies collected here are first allocated to the animals and their care - everything else is secondary - including the aesthetics. We want to provide a fun and safe barnyard atmosphere for our guests, so please look past our grounds should they appear a bit untrimmed at the time of your visit - look at the animals. You'll find them healthy, happy and sassy! Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, as we are always on the lookout for ways that we can improve to provide your family with a wonderful experience.

Was a fantastic choice. The staff was very nice. The horse ride was enjoyable even for someone who has no experience. The petting zoo was a lot of fun too. Will definitely go again.

“Deer Park Petting Zoo and Stables”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

For the riding, I suggest reservations. We arrived on time and things were a little disorganized because of heavy rain the night before required checking the trail for safety. The trail is quite hilly, but is almost completely shade covered by the trees of the Smokey Mountains. The riding is head to tail lead by a guide. The guide was very good and concerned with safety of all. The horses were well trained and responsive. Children of 3 years and up can ride either with a parent, or alone taken on a lead. We had a 3 year old who after being watched by the guide, rode with a parent. While a couple of our group were experienced riders, most were novice. I would imagine that the slow head to tail ride would be somewhat boring for an experienced rider. Coupons are available in most of the books available in the area.
Pony rides are also available along a long fenced track, so that a pony rider gets more of a ride than merely circling a ring.

The petting zoo is reasonable in price and is interesting for young and old alike. Feed is sold at a reasonable prices and refills are half price. There are a variety of deer, goats, a camel, zebra and several other more rare animals. Discount coupons are also available in discount books in the area.

“Great experience !!!!”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

Loved this place - kids had a blast at the petting zoo and so did we - went over to the horseback riding stables afterwards and can't say enough about how kind they were. My youngest who is 7 was afraid to ride and they were so patient and kind with her - she within minutes was thrilled and had a wonderful "safe" ride - no cliffs or dangerous areas which was very comforting - I read many places that were over cliffs and being she has never rode I was nervous to try one of those. The animals were very clean and well cared for. We definitely recommend this place to anyone especially with little ones
