“Great family vacation spot”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

I can't say enough good things about this resort. The indoor and outdoor water parks are fantastic. Lifeguards are everywhere so if you're traveling with children this gives you a peace of mind when playing in the waterparks. Wave pools are great. The lazy river is wonderful and water slides are awesome. We went the 1st week of August and it wasn't crowded at all. The rooms were great. There was an earlier review about the rooms needing dusting & I'll agree, but that is definitely not a deal breaker--just a very, very minor thing. We stayed on the 1st floor which was great since we didn't have to wait on elevators. All staff were very nice and accommodating. There is more than enough for the kids to do. If you are staying for several days & have children I would definitely recommend buying the All Stay Pass for the Wilderness Adventure Forest. They will love it. Also check out the Polka Dot Pottery where you can paint your own pottery. You and the kids can create a lasting memory to take home. We will definitely be visiting again. Kids said this was better than going to the beach and I'll have to agree-----No sand, just great FUN!!!!!

Room Tip: Request a 1st floor room so you don't have to wait for an elevator.

We stayed at the Wilderness at the Smokies for two days in July. Before, we had only seen the resort from the highway, but seeing the waterpark made us want to stay there so bad. Check-in was no problem. The man at the desk was friendly. There was an issue with turning on the lights in the room - but it was quickly resolved. The resort makes you place a hotel room card into a slot in order for the power in the room to work. I like this idea because it means they are striving to be more eco-friendly.

The view from our room was of the outdoor waterpark. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The walls are solid and we had no problems with noise. Sleeping was great too - and as a pregnant woman, I need a comfortable place to sleep. I found that here!

My son was too excited to get down there in the water when we arrived. We checked out the indoor park first, but it was too hot and humid in the room to stay in there long. I did like the small toddler area they have with a slide, swings, and a few other fun things to play on.

My three year old much preferred the outdoor water park. We must have went through the lazy river 8 times the first day we were there! He loved riding in my lap on a tube. We just wished the outdoor park stayed open later than 8pm.

After swimming, we decided to get room service for dinner. Usually, it is way too expensive for our tastes, but the Wilderness' room service menu was no higher than if we had went out for dinner. Plus, we got the convenience of not having to leave the room! The food was great and it was at our door in a reasonable amount of time.

The market in the lobby had anything you could think of, if you needed it. We forgot to pack toothpaste, but it was no problem because they had some there. They also had some nice fudge that we could not resist!

We had a great stay and cannot wait to return.

This place is a complete façade. They told me when I booked our reservation that everything was open and I would be able to have access to 3 waterparks. When I got there, one was not open at all. The other had things closed because they were broken. I have a 2 year old that was so disappointed that the waterpark she could play in was closed. The staff was very rude and always had scowl on their face. We waited 2 hours for our meal at The Thirsty Miner there. It really was ridiculous.

From the oldest child (9) to the youngest (15months), there was something for each of the four kids! They were entertained for the entire week we were there and wanted to stay longer!! We loved it and will be back for sure.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3 level does not require elevator rides, I loved not having to wait for an elevator to...

Wilderness at the Smokies Resort is awesome. There are two water parks. An indoor water park and an outdoor water park. Both have a wave pool. The Storm Chaser was the favorite in the indoor park. You ride in a raft that will takes you down a huge tube and then into a giant funnel. At night the ride is illuminated with colored lights. The kids loved the Surf rider. It's a stationary wave that you boogie board surf on. Totally cool. The best ride outside has to be the Wild Vortex. Not for the faint at heart. You fall straight down and then shoot up a hill and back down. The heavier you are, the faster you go. Great place to take the family if your in the Smokies. Nice rooms and they let you go to the water park the day you arrive and let you go even on the day you check out.

Wilderness at the Smokies Resort is like no other. This place is huge! But who cares about that. The main attraction is the water park. The indoor water park has two giant water rides, two tube slides, a surf rider, a multi-level play area and a wave pool. The Storm Chaser was our favorite. Five people can ride in a raft that will take you into a giant funnel. It's even better at night. Outside is the best lazy river I've been on. It's long and half-way thru you enter a wave pool. A new feature is the water drag strip. Four tubes with a starting countdown be put to the test who truly is the fastest tube rider. Now the best part about the outdoor park is the Wild Vortex. Have you ever wondered what it was like to be flushed down a tube? Here's your chance. First, you climb in an upright tube. The door shuts (don't worry it's clear). 3...2...1... and the floor drops out from underneath you. You feel like your falling straight down! They say it's a 2.5 G drop in two seconds, I say... it's cool! If your not weight challenged like me, you will fly. The weight limit is 100 lbs to maybe 250 lbs. Something like that. If your too light or too heavy, you won't be able to get over the "loop." Don't fret, there's an escape hatch.

O.K. here's the big plus... the wonderful people at Wilderness at the Smokies let you go to the water park before your check-in time AND you can stay till closing even after you've checked out! Two days of a cool water park for only one nights stay. That's awesome when your a big family on a budget. I guess I should mention that the rooms are great. Comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't take the time away from the water park to eat at the resort, but I heard it was good.

Wilderness is a must stay if you're visiting the Smokies.

Room Tip: There are numerous choices for room sizes. Rooms up to 15 guests and villas up to 16.
