I've been in a few caverns and the Forbidden Cavern was a very accessible. Be sure to take a sweater and wear pants. It's about 58 degrees in there and quite damp. This is an active cave so there is a beautiful stream running through it that is 98% pure and never reaches the surface. The history on the cave, from pre-historic Native Americans who used the cave to escape the heat of the summer and the freezing temps of the winters, was fascinating. Later, the cave was also used by bootleggers. The natural formations in the cave are beautiful and the whole tour is easily accessible, even to small children of about 3 years old and up. I think that very elderly people would have a hard time with some of the climbing and slippery terrain and children younger than 3 would also need a great deal of help. However, it was a great little side trip that was worth the price of admission. Cute little gift shop there too.
