My husband and I visited Frank & Marty's on a recommendation from the owner of the B&B where we were staying in Roan Mountain. There aren't many restaurant options here, so we tried it. It's a hole-in-the-wall place, serving brick oven pizza right in front of you in a small building that only has 2 tables! Easy to miss, it looks like an unassuming house from the outside. Do not be deceived - inside you will find a world-class baker turning out not just pizza from his brick, wood-fired oven, but bread worthy of a James Beard award. In fact, he is a renowned baker who won multiple awards while at his bakery in Santa Rosa, California, but has moved back to Roan Mountain to live a simpler life doing what he loves! This is a must-stop if you are in the area for both the food and the experience!!! At the time of this posting, pizzas are $10 and bread is baked only on Wed. and Fri.
