We found an online deal and decided to check out this mountain B&B in the middle of the winter. The price was so cheap I was worried, but I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. On arrival Mary told us we were the only ones staying there that weekend, so she upgraded us to the suite free of charge. What a room! Huge king bed, gas logs, large hot tub, fridge...excellent. The rest of the house was quite charming and still decorated for Christmas as we visited the 1st week in Jan. If it had been warmer, we would've sat on the front porch swing - nice cozy secluded area with a creek, horses, and goats in the small pasture.
But the breakfasts were worth the price alone! Mary's unbelievable cuisine would put many "fine dining" establishments to shame. Both mornings the table was filled with unique creations including some amazing sourdough French toast with a homemade honey-pecan syrup from local fare. Gourmet coffee, beautiful fruit cups, apple pie - enjoyed in front of the log fire while it was snowing - out of this world.
Also can't say enough about what a great personable host Mary was. On top of everything else, she packed us delicious bagged lunches to take hiking both days. Not much else to do in Roan Mountain other than hiking, but if you want to get away, there's unbelievable quality here! I can't make this review sound good enough - can't wait for next time.
