My wife and I went on a Friday night, when all of the chain and corporate restaurants were filling up with lines out the door. We feel badly for all of those people who waited so long for a bad meal, because as far as we’re concerned, Smokies Cuban Cafe was the best food in Pigeon Forge. To be fair to the competition, we prefer to eat at locally owned (or family owned, even better) restaurants in which people share their cuisine, and often their culture. As many people on this forum have noted, this is genuine Cuban food—and genuinely excellent food at that! We were lucky enough to grab the last table, and we overheard strangers from different tables strike up a conversation. All of them had lived near Cuban communities in Florida at some point in their lives, and they were commenting on how good the food was, and how it brought them back to those days.
We were given attention immediately. We think our waitress was the daughter of the owner. She certainly was polite, helpful, and informative. The owner eventually came around and greeted everyone. We felt welcomed instantly.
And the food was to die for! My wife and I split an entrée and a sandwich, just to sample the range, and then we finished with coffees and flan (which was homemade). We did not stop talking about our meal until the next day, and compared everything else we ate in Pigeon Forge to it. Nothing else compared.
You can waste your time and money waiting in line for mediocre grub, or you can have an excellent meal right in the heart of Pigeon Forge. If you want the latter, head to Smokies Cuban Café.
