The food was fantastic and there were so many choices. It was extremely crowded but the hostess worked hard to find us a seat quickly. The service was not great but the food and atmosphere made up for it!

My husband and I came here for an early lunch and our experience started awkwardly. We arrived just as they opened at 11:00am, and when we walked in the door, we found the entire service staff standing in the entryway. Instead of saying hello, they all stared at us and said nothing. After we were seated, the staff continued to congregate at the hostess stand and no one came to our table for at least five minutes, even though no one else had been seated in the meantime. Our server seemed well-meaning, but was a bit awkward. Regarding the food, the flavors seemed to be moving in the right direction. However, I would caution against ordering the shrimp and grits. It is normally a dish I love, but their version is misguided. They serve in a bowl and there is so much sauce that it appears more like a porridge than a composed dish.

The Old Mill is a great experince in southern dining. The food is wonderful although the portions are huge. We purchased one entree then paid $8.99 for a second plate and family size vegetables. Sharing the one meat entre with the added vegetables, appetizers and desserts is more food that any two people need. Purchasing two entrees would have been an exercise in gluttony!! That said, the food is wonderful - tasty, hearty and southern.

The service is exceptional and the staff give great advice in terms of menu choices and how to order it.

If you order individually, be prepared to take a good deal of it home with you.

It can be noisy but what family style restaurant isn't. Not exactly the romantic sort of restaurant but if that's what you're after there are plenty of other choices. If you're looking for great home cooked southern country food ... this is it.

We went for breakfast and had to switch to lunch but we were not disapointed. They do have quiche on the lunch menu.
