“An OK Ride--not bad for a 1st time rider or young children”

Smoky Mountain Speedpark
Reviewed July 13, 2010

My husband loves go-karts. There is no shortage of go-kart tracks in this area. So, he scouted out a few of the tracks. After riding Rockin' Raceway, he decided he wanted to try another place out too, so he decided to try the Smoky Mountain Speedpark since the track LOOKED like fun. Also they had a sign out front that said BUY one GET one FREE. So, we figured it would be a good deal. We went up to the window and asked the cashier how much it cost to ride. It was $8 per rider for 5 minutes ride time. They said the BUY one GET one deal was only for the bungee and another ride...go-karts were excluded. Personally I felt like it was deceptive to have a sign that made it look like ALL attractions were BUY one GET one. However, he decided to ride once for $8.

Once he paid he made his way down to the go-kart track. Here the attendant started to let him ride, but then told him he had to wait a few minutes. Meanwhile 3 staff members take off on go-karts and ride around for like 10-15 minutes. My husband said they were taking the go-karts out back to gas them up. I guess this may be true, but I was too busy watching some of the people on the park's extreme rides (bungee jump, screamin' swing, skyscraper, slingshot) to notice WHY the employees were riding around on the go-karts, while making my husband wait. BUT, Even though they made him wait, he felt that the employees were nice. Plus, the cashier who sold us the ticket was SUPER friendly.

Since my husband is the go-kart person, I asked him what he thought of Smoky Mountain Speedpark's go-karts & here is what he had to say: The go-karts here are ok. These seem a tad bit slow after riding the 40mph go-karts at Rockin' Raceway. The large track was rather boring & the uphill drag seemed to slow the go-karts down...making them less fun. Also, on the downhill drag, the go-karts would backfire since the go-karts had some sort of restricter on them that slowed them down.

Overall, he feels it was not a bad experience, but just not as fun as a tighter smaller track that you can whip around the turns. He feels this track might be better suited for younger children or a starter go-kart track for the 1st time rider. I can tell you that I saw disappointment in his face when he got off the go-karts at Smoky Mountain Speedpark. It cost more money to ride here compared to Rockin' Raceway since they did NOT have a BUY one GET one deal on their go-karts. IF you want to see a grown man smile from an adrenaline rush after riding go-karts--this is not the place. Take him to Rockin' Raceway instead and after 5 minutes he will be grinning ear to ear. But, IF you want a nice tame ride then opt the Smoky Mountain Speedpark.

Note: Smoky Mountain Speedpark also has extreme rides in addition to go-karts. IF you want an extreme ride like a bungee jump, screamin' swing, skyscraper or slingshot--this might be a place of interest for you.
