“Wonderful Stay!”
Reviewed October 2, 2008

We stayed at the Whisperwood Farm B & B for our 28th Anniversary . Janice the Innkeeper made us feel so welcome! Our room was beautifully decorated and cozy. Everything so romantic and comfortable. The room and bath incredibly clean and private. The Dessert waiting in our room when we returned from a visit to nearby Gatlinburg,SCRUMPTIOUS! Breakfast on the deck the next morning was out of this world. We noticed that during the night our tire went flat and Janice and her husband got us back on the road in no time, with a snack to enjoy on the hike Janice helped us plan that morning. The hike was perfect to "Midnight Hole". We had such a memoral time! We will return for a longer stay in the near future!!

First off, it is NOT in Pigeon Forge (thankfully!!!), but in Cosby, a much quieter, less traveled part of the Smokies on the Tennessee side. I can't imagine why anyone would want to stay in Pigeon Forge or even Gatlinburg, when Cosby is so much quieter, but then again, we are two adults traveling without children, so there you go.

Janice, the owner, was wonderful and we enjoyed many talks with her, mostly about horses (there are five or six beauties on the property). We stayed in the room with the private hot tub in the back (someone else has already posted pictures of it here). The bed frame is made from rhododendron wood, and there are many pieces of rough wood furniture throughout the property which are just magnificent! Breakfasts were excellent, and dining suggestions right on! Janice even brought us dessert, one night on the porch and the other as we sat in the front lawn to enjoy the full moon.

We sat on our own back porch, with the creek running in front of us, fireflies blinking in the twilight and what my husband told me were tree frogs serenading in the trees. Now, I am a city girl and a native Californian, so I have experienced neither fireflies nor treefrogs. Fireflies are amazing at a distance, just as long as you don't see them up close (I'm not a big insect fan!) Treefrogs are loud, and don't sound anything like the ribbeting of the frogs I'm used to! So I found it a bit difficult to sleep, while hubby, the southern country boy, slept just fine.

I would highly recommend the Creekwalk Inn and would stay there again, should I ever venture into Tennessee again. Next time I would pack the bug spray as I was eaten alive. And I am NOT a fan of insects, especially the flying kind, and there are many!

A couple of notes: most, if not all, restaurants in Cosby are dry, but you can BYO. There is a Mexican restaurant just up the road which has pretty dang authentic food, plus live bluegrass on the weekends. Another recommended restaurant is Carver's Apple Farm which I believe is on the Gatlinburg road.

  • Liked — Quiet, luxurious
  • Disliked — Bugs! But that's just the area, not the lodging

My wife and I had a wonderful anniversary trip at Whisperwood! Several things made the stay fantastic:

Location: It is located about 18 miles from Gatlinburg (a 30 minute drive), so you have access to the town attractions, dining, and shopping. It is also a very short drive (5 minutes from the Inn) to the Foothills Parkway which has some scenic overlooks of the Great Smokies. The Innkeeper directed us to a hiking trail which led to a swimming hole and some waterfalls less than 25 minutes away. This was a lot of fun!

The Inn: The inn was quite cozy. Fresh cookies were waiting for us when the night we arrived. The room was a bit small, but very clean and nicely decorated toward a cabin feel. (There were larger rooms available.) When we arrived the second night, the innkeeper had ice cream sundaes waiting for us.

The breakfasts: Each morning we had breakfast outside on the deck overlooking the creek. The breakfasts (included in the cost) tasted great! They were filling enough so that we could skip lunch and do an early dinner.

The Innkeeper: Janice was quite knowledgeable about just about every hiking trail in the National Park. The one she directed us to was wonderful! She let us have our privacy, but she also assisted us with anything we needed.

This was a wonderful experience, and you are missing out if you never go to Whisperwood Farm!

Staying at the Whisperwood was a wonderful start to our vacation. We were only able to stay for one night, but will definately be back! It is tucked back in a small mountain town and makes you feel like are truely getting away from everything. There are lots of places to relax on the property and the innkeepers seemed very knowledgeable about the area, if you wanted to get out and explore. The inn is very clean and tastefully decorated. We were the only ones at the bed and breakfast the night we stayed, and really appreciated the amazing breakfast that was prepared specifically to fuel us for a day of outdoor activities. The food was healthy and tasted wonderful!

We have stayed at a lot of B&B over the years but this was by far the best ever. The room was gorgeous, overlooking a small creek, with a wonderful soft gurgling sound, with a hot tub just steps away. The setting was beautiful in the Smokies but what made the stay so memorable was the innkeeper Janice. She must stay up late at night thinking of ways to make her guests feel welcomed and special. Everytime we returned to our room there would be a delightful little snack, the bed turned down, soft music playing and the fireplace lit. The breakfasts were just fabulous with incredible fruit plates followed by delicious gourmet creations that were out of this world. Best food I have ever had at an inn. By far. Even the bed was incredible. My husband is usually up at 6 AM but was sleeping in until 7:30 just because it was so comfy. The hot tub in the woods was a nice touch...very private. The lodge we were in had several rooms - all were beautifully furnished in antiques, soft rugs, with CD players and full baths in a log cabin setting. Just gorgeous. We intend to return to the smokies again if only to stay with Janice again! I cannot recommend this B&B enough. I look forward to trying out some of the other log cabins Janice owns on the same property - all were breathtakingly beautiful - spotlessly clean and inviting. The bathrooms were equally inviting - our room had a nice tiled double shower and soft towels. Everything was just perfect.

We stayed Feb15-17,2008. The wedding arrangements came together beautifully. The breakfasts were wonderful. Plenty of food. Homemade fruit toppings for french toast, smoothies, ham with cranberries, corn, quiches, bacon amazing! In the evening homemade blackberry and raspberry pies were the raves. Homemade toppings for ice cream sundaes. Tea's were divine. Food at the wedding reception excellent. Wedding cake not only looked beautiful but tasted wonderful.
The wedding chapel on the grounds was really something special with the cross in the window and the dove above. The rustic benches add much character.
The rooms are quaint, although a little on the small side. Very relaxing stay.

My sister-in-law, who lives in PA, found Whisperwood online and recommended it since we did not want the typical Gatlinburg wedding. After touring the chapel, the inn, and talking with Janice and Tifton(Innkeepers), we knew this was the perfect place for our special day. Janice and her professional staff made our wedding ever so special, every detail handled-no stress for the bride! The inn was magical, very relaxing and perfect for our families. The food was delicious and the teas superior. I cannot say enough good things about Creekwalk Inn and the wonderful people who provided us with a memorable experience. They made us feel like family and we look forward to returning. It is a lovely place, from the quaint stream outside the rooms to watching Spot(their horse) graze in the field with the mountains surrounding your view.
