Good enough, but not noteworthy, ultra chic, or ultra clean (as in the carpets and decor could use a refresh.) No problems, big breakfast, and this place has ample parking, I even used the little gym (treadmills, weights, elliptical, bike....) No reason to go, no reason not to go, it's off the highway, and safe. Comfortable beds, and not expensive or problematic.

This is now owned by Hilton and is a nice, business class hotel that offers some very nice amenities given the price and location.

The hotel is about 30 minutes away from the airport, nicely located across and around malls, lots of eating places, and close to Oak Ridge Labs.

Upon welcome, you they check you in and give you a nice warm chocolate chip cookie. How nice is that ? Very well done, small gesture but makes you feel a bit of southern hospitality.

The staff is decent, polite and courteous.

There is ample parking in front of the hotel so no need to pay expensive parking or valet fees.

There is a restaurant (Burchfields) inside and its a decent place to get a meal if you are not up for going out to dinner.

The rooms are very good sized, and appear to have been upgraded with large 35-42 inch flat screen TV's, bed linens are new and clean, fresh and they give you free wireless.

The bathrooms are very large, nicely kept and have upgraded their fittings so you get some nice new showers, and lots of room in case you are traveling with kids or family.

Also, they have done something that I have not seen in other places. The wastebaskets have 2 built in smaller baskets - one for waste and one for recyclables. Very nice and a good way to incent people to recycle.

This is not a 5* property but for the 3* place that it is, its far better than what you find at many so called "resorts" or hotels in more expensive parts of the country.

The hotel hallways and open areas look a bit dated. But they have upgraded the rooms first which was a better choice if they were planning to do one before the other.

There is room service, and you can get a solid, warm breakfast delivered on time under $15.

Did I mention its all under $100 on a per-night charge ?

Nicely done Hilton. You could have chosen to have a trashy place given its cheaper to have a hotel in Knoxville than other parts of the country. But that you upgraded the rooms, thats cool.

I would have stayed at the Staybridge based on reviews, but the DoubleTree was fine. I had a handicap room for some reason, which was fine - other than the shower head was too low and had no way of being adjusted other than to hold it in your hand (which was awkward). The room was a decent size, bed was comfy, AC unit didn't seem to keep a steady temp but otherwise had no issue with it. Didn't try the pool. Exercise room was in an odd spot and only had a few pieces of machinery, although they had an agreement with a gym somewhere. Had breakfast at the restaurant several times. There are two buffets or you could order off of the menu. Menu items were better and HUGE. All in all a pretty good stay and very convenient to work.

A tip - not a lot of decent places to eat in Oak Ridge, nor a lot to do. If either of those interest you, stay in Knoxville (and visit the Downtown Grill and Brewery!).

Room Tip: First floor is not usually my choice but it was quiet, no noise from above.

You really can't go wrong by choosing a Doubletree for business travel. I wouldn't recommend staying in Oak Ridge proper at all if you are interested in tourism. Knoxville has better places that cater to the tourism industry.

The Doubletree was clean, comfortable, and had all the appointments one would expect for the business traveler. The location is in town, but not too close to any noisemakers, so it is a quiet property.

Room Tip: It may appear that it is difficult to enter from the highway in both directions, but there is another entrance from a side street. A peek at a map should show you how.
