We went back to Big Ed;s from West Knoxville after a year layoff. The pizza was great. Being from New Jersey, I know pizza. The paper plates and plastic forks help keep costs down. Who cares? Our server was the best. They made a mistake with our order so we ended up getting a 2nd free pizza and we gave her a nice big tip. Now we have a whole Big Ed's pizza in the freezer. The Anheuser Busch products are the best. Cold Amber Boch is AWESOME after a week at work and thank God...............none of that carbonated water call Miller Lite. Don't think I can find a better pie other than Metro Pizza in Maryville.

“yea for big eds”

Yes the paper plates were a joke as were the tiny plastic forks. But I got to say I liked the pizza a lot and the beer was cold! The old place has some character and it's good to see a business thriving in this economy!I would go back!

“Great for what it is”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2009

I think several of the negative reviews have come from people who go to Big Ed's expecting too much. First of all, they DO use paper plates and flimsy plasticware, so if that is too low-class for you, don't go there. Secondly, if you are not wanting to wait, you should avoid dinner time and especially Friday nights when Oak Ridge High School has a home sports game. Thirdly, it's true that all they have is pizza, but what more do you expect from a restaurant that's called "Big Ed's Pizza"...there's a reason it's not called "Big Ed's Italian Resturant". Fourth of all, yes, it is a bit greesy..blot you pizza with a napkin and move on. Finally, despite what other people are saying, Big Eds is no more expensive than Pizza Hut or Dominos...but it tastes alot better. Big Eds is a local favorite for a reason, the locals don't come with false expectations as to the frills of Big Eds, they come expecting delicious pizza, and that's what they get. If you are looking for real plates, real silverware, and a short wait, you're better at some national chain that pre-makes their pizza.

“BEST PIZZA IN DIXIE... A CAN'T MISS GOOD TIME...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2009

Best pizza, atmosphere in Oak Ridge and probable the South for pizza... take a few minutes (and an ice cold beer) to walk around and take a look at the wall's... history all around (UT football, basketball, local sports, USMC, etc.)... that is what makes the place a can't miss anytime... and especially no better place than on a Friday night in the fall when Oak Ridge is playing across the street or UT up the road 20-30 minutes... FANTASTIC!!!

“Great pizza.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 23, 2008

Big Ed's is a very good pizza restaurant. It's my favorite pizza in the East Tennessee area, actually. The place has been there a very long time, which should say something about the pizza.

Is Big Ed's poorly lit? Yes. Is the restaurant very small? Yes. It's also true that the plates are tiny (one is too small to hold one slice of pizza, so you need to use multiple ones). I also agree with the reviews stating that the staff is less than friendly. The service is slightly below average, in my experience there (I've been there about 10 times).

The bathrooms are nearly inaccessible and the aisles are very hard to navigate. However, the pizza is very, very good. It's the best pizza in the Knoxville-Oak Ridge area by far.

If you go to Big Ed's, you might want to consider eating lunch or a very early dinner there. After about 5:00 PM, you might have to wait an hour or so to get a table.
