MY wife & I visited here for a very much needed getaway. We stayed in the Lion's Den suite. It was conveniently located adjacent to the kitchen. We had a wonderful Dinner by the fireplace, in a very cozy atmosphere along with a very few others in the dining area. The staff were very helpful, nothing rushed, exactly what we were looking for. Looking forward to a return visit in the fall. James & Teresa Kelly Wallins, Ky.

  • Liked — Very personable staff.

My husband and I spent a weekend at Christopher Place to celebrate our fifth anniversary. We have been to a few B&Bs before, and this one is definitely my favorite. The service was excellent, and the breakfasts were outstanding. To give you an example of what they serve for breakfast - the first morning we were there, we had fresh fruit, a warm cinnamon roll, and Eggs Benedict. I was so full, but wanted to finish it because it was so delicious!

We stayed in Camelot. The room was lovely and quiet. To clarify what it says on the website - there is no tub in the bathroom, just a big marble tiled shower. A tub or whirlpool was not important to us, so this wasn't a big deal.

What I loved about this B&B was that if you wanted to explore the area, you are not far from Smoky Mountain National Park and Gatlinburg - but if you just want to lounge around the B&B there is plenty to do. We played croquet on the lawn, swam in the pool, took a short hike off the grounds, played tennis, and sat in the rocking chairs and read books. There is also a game room on the top floor where you can play billiards or board games.

This is a wonderful B&B and we were very happy with our experience. We would recommend Christopher Place to anyone looking for a romantic getaway.

I've never been to a bed and breakfast before so I had some doubts on wether I'd like it or not...well, needless to say this is TOP notch as far as any place to stay away from home.

I felt so at home in the Inn. It was so warm and welcoming. The staff was unbelievable. They were so kind and caring about every need we had.

The breakfast was outstanding! Tim made wonderful meals every morning for us.

And I always clean the room with clorox wipes and lysol the places down we stay BUT at Christopher place, I didn't have to lift a finger. It was soooo clean. I couldn't believe how clean EVERYTHING was.

You won't be sorry, if you chose Christopher place to stay.

My wife and I made our first trip through the Tennessee and NC Mountains last fall, and we made the quick trip from Gatlinburg to Newport to stay at this wonderful Inn! First, the Inn is wonderfully secluded, and just what we needed after long drive the day before. We stayed in the Papaw's Suite, with beautiful views of the ridge and the jacuzzi tub that my wife and I "require" on every place we stay :) Dinner was excellent (leave room for dessert), and very reasonably priced. The only letdown was there was no alcoholic beverages served due to county laws. We would definitely stay here again during a future visit!

My wife and I needed a retreat (we have 7 kids between the two of us) and Christopher Place was exactly what the doctor ordered. From the breathtaking scenery to the first rate accomodations, this was arguably one of the best get aways we have ever taken. Marston Price - the owner - and his staff not only saw to our every need, but also went the extra mile in every area. Christopher Place will now be an annual stop for us.

My wife and I just returned from a three night stay at Christopher Place. It was a mixed bag of experiences.

First - The Good: The property itself is very impressive from a distance. The view of the Smokies is great. The food (especially the dinners, were the best we have ever had - I don't know how they do such a great job and only charge $35 per meal!!!). We stayed in Margaret's Room which was huge and nicely appointed ($165 per night). Two windows overlook the south and the Smokies. The common areas were nice, the dining room stately and the library warm and inviting (especially with help from the bar!!) The back porch was awesome, complete with numerous rocking chairs. Check-in went well, with a staff member waiting for us at the entryway and only a signature required to begin our stay.

Now the Bad: The bathroom has not been upgraded since the 70's and needs some help. The toilet flushed poorly and had to be fixed mid-stay. The carpet in the room, as well as the rest of the house needs to be re-streched, as many ripples were present. The ceiling also had numerous water spots. Also, the entire A/C system for the whole house is located in the attic, just above the bed, and was quite noisy - even if you are a sound sleeper! Housekeeping and maintenance must improve!! Some of the wooden spiral staircase planks were split, cobwebs were numerous, dirty glasses left in the game room were present during our entire stay, an empty coke can was in the downstairs bathroom for two days, etc, etc. It is a real shame to see Christopher Place going down hill, as it could be one of the finest, with attention to detail. All the ceilings need repainting, walls need touched-up, every baseboard needs to be painted, and all the dormers outside need attention from rot and peeling paint. Staff is shorthanded also. The guy checking us in also served drinks in the library/served the meal/bused the meal. The lady serving breakfast also cleaned rooms/did laundry/handled our check-out. Christopher Place should shut down for a couple of weeks and have crews address all of the problems and issues and scour it from top to bottom.
Did we get what we paid for? Yes. Could they address these issues and have one of the finest B & B's in the nation? Yes!! I guess that is the biggest dissapointment is seeing a grand place go downhill due to neglect.

We booked a weekend at Christopher Place hoping to have an absolutely exquisite and luxurious experience, but we were a bit disappointed with some aspects of our stay. The room was quite comfortable overall, but we had to run and drain the whirpool tub several times to get residue out of it (not something one wants to do on a romantic vacation!). Also, the toilet in our suite (Roman Holiday) malfunctioned during our stay and we had to fix the flapper numerous times. The water temperature in the shower was not consistent and often was either too hot or too cold. The carpet seemed dirty with lots of stains on it. Of note, the balcony is not private, so if you stay there just be sure to pull the curtains for your privacy! Probably because the house is an older structure, we could hear a lot of creaking of the floors/ceilings/stairs/elevator from our room. The breakfasts were excellent and offered a nice start to the day, although we felt a bit rushed once we were finished eating. We didn't feel that we could just sit and enjoy our time over a cup of coffee after our meal was finished, but that instead we had to get up and leave right away. The same applied to after dinner. Also, the main course at dinner was average and not the gourmet quality we were expecting based on their advertisement. Additionally, the fitness center could use some work, such as updated equipment, considering the resort's rating. We enjoyed playing tennis, but the tennis court has deep cracks in numerous places and needs renovation. Some things that were really nice about the resort: the hiking trail, the peace and quiet outdoors, board games available to play, and overall comfortable accomodations except as noted above. The hiking trail on site was really nice to hike. We really appreciated how the staff tried to stay out of the way to try and give the guests privacy. So, overall, we had a nice stay. We just think that the resort is priced over its value since aspects of it are a bit run down. We likely would not stay here again, but we would recommend it for anyone who wants to visit the Smoky Mountains away from a lot of tourists.
