“Great Historic Hotel Close to downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

My husband and I just stayed here for 5 nights in a fantastic suite on the 4th floor. Union Station is a very special place with so much history. My son was getting married at Cheekwood on Saturday. Most of the wedding guests stayed here and loved the ambiance which was a definite positive. We had the Rehearsal Dinner on Friday in the McKinley Room with almost 60 people. Everything was absolutely wonderful. The guests all loved the food and the McKinley Room was perfect--many rave reviews! Everyone commented that it tasted more like fantastic restaurant food than catered food. Angie was our coordinator who made everything work so well for us. And all the staff just couldn't do enough for us. The only minor negatives are that the rooms could use a bit of sprucing up! They are a little tired. And the trains could wake you up at night. But Overall---a wonderful experience!!!! If you have a special event, I would highly recommend Union Station! We will be back!

Room Tip: 5th floor is best. But anything above 3rd (street floor) works. Ask to be opposite side of trains...

I recently stayed here for business travel. The hotel is beautiful and historic. Rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and cozy. Convenient location and within walking distance to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Lovely, lovely hotel right on the edge of downtown Nashville. Beautiful building, gorgeous room with high celings and luxary bedding. Accomodating staff. Awesome birthday meal in the hotel restaurant. Would go back in a heartbeat.

It almost pains me to give this hotel a 3 but I really do not think it deserves anything more than that.

First with the good points:
The hotel is gorgeous. The stained glass ceiling is amazing as are the 2 lovely staircases. The rooms are very well decorated and the bed was comfortable. The complementary bottles of water and the robe were also nice touches. I attended a conference and the conference was very well organized by the hotel. The food that the hotel catered for the event was very good, even for hotel food. Also, the location was great. Just a few blocks walking and you were right in the heart of the music scene in Nashville. I also liked that you can control your own thermostat.

Now for the negatives. While I loved the location of my room, one wall was all windows overlooking the lobby and the black out drapes let light from the lobby in all night. It was irritating. Also, my bathroom was very small and had very little space for toiletries. Not so much a big deal for 1 person but if there were 2 in the room it would most definitely be an issue. Now for the part that really bothered me and a lot of people at the conference I attended. The Trains! The noise at night....multiple times a night. It was very frustrating.

While there were good points for the hotel: location, very beautiful, and the food I think the high price and the trains would make me not want to stay there again.

Beautiful hotel, great service, wonderful staff. Couldn't ask for anything better. If you can afford it (posted rate $399/night) well worth it, you do get what you pay for. The only 2 downfalls were the lobby/lounge bar closing down early so if you want to stay and have a few drinks you will have to bring your own or go out to the local bars which are in close proximity and in abundance and there was no pool/spa to unwind. The room we stayed in was big enough for the 3 of us and having a double sink in the bathroom was a great plus with us getting ready in the morning. Being on Broadway close to downtown and all the major sites was one of our reasons for picking this hotel, we didn't need a car rental and if we needed transportation the bus system was reliable and very cheap compared to other major cities, taxi service was fast and also had flat rates between certain attractions ie to/from airport, Grand Ole Opry etc so you could budget your transportation costs. If we do go back we would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for high level rooms facing front parking lot and don't be afraid to ask for extras ie rolla...

Freight trains in Nashville come through at 1 in the morning, 2 in the morning, 4 in the morning , and 5:44 in the morning. This restored hotel sits directly next to ACTIVE freight train lines. Went for a sales meeting. After the first night 4 of our 15, myself included, were either switching room or switching hotels. Best bet on a room is an upper floor on the street side. Best overall bet is to visit the hotel bar for a drink and stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: Upper floor on the street (non freight train) side

Union station is absolutely beautiful. Our room was on the first floor, although we were high enough we could still hear traffic noise. We were also able to hear noise coming from the hallway. our room was close to the main open lobby and away from elevator.
Our room had 18foot ceiling which was spectacular, the decor is tastefully done, the room had free starbucks coffee, bottled water.
The hotel itself offered coffee and scones in the am & cheese & cracker and ice tea, lemonade mid afternoon. no big buffet. We never ate at the restaurant, it was quite pricey.
No shuttle service to and from airport which a downfall for a Marriott hotel.
no swimming pool or sauna.
