Comfort Inn Downtown
Ranked #84 of 157 Hotels in Nashville
Reviewed July 18, 2007

We just returned from a two-night stay at the Comfort Inn Nashville/Demonbreun Street. The hotel was inexpensive and close to downtown and other area attractions, which was the main reason we selected it. They also offered a free continental breakfast.

Following check-in, we went to our non-smoking, king room, which was a little smaller than I expected. The furnishings were a bit outdated and worn. There was a cigarette burn in the lounge chair and a pancake size bare spot in the cottage cheese ceiling above the bed. A few dead moths were in the corner along with some dust, but the main carpet area seemed fairly clean.

When we entered the bathroom area, the first thing I noticed was the tile floor, which appeared to be dirty. My husband thought it was just my imagination, but he sprayed it anyway with the disinfectant spray we brought. The following morning, he took a shower and got water on the tile floor. He wiped it up with one of the white towels, and, to our shock, it was almost black. I was right, it had not been mopped prior to our arrival. I complained to the young man at the desk and asked him to have the maids mop the floor when they cleaned our room that day. When we returned from our outting late that afternoon, the room had been cleaned, but the floor still had not been mopped. I realized this when I dampened a wash rag and wiped the floor. It was black with dirt and grime.

The TV had limited channels--regular area stations, plus a couple of HBO channels, TBS, CNN, Weather Channel, etc. The vanity/bathroom area was fairly small, and there were some sloppy cosmetic repairs around the toilet area. We were kept awake a good part of the first night by some continuous nearby banging--like a door slamming.

The continental breakfast was fair (do-it-yourself waffles, cereal, bananas, bagles, and donuts), although in hindsight, it would not necessarily be an incentive for us again.

The hotel lobby area was small, and the check-in desk area was a bit run down. The corridors seemed kind of dirty and many of the hotel room doors had chipped paint, dents, and scuffed areas--not really the best impression for guests as they arrive.

On the positive side, the hotel was a few minutes drive to downtown and within 10-20 minutes from other sites we visited (Belle Meade, the Hermitage, the Parthenon, Opryland Hotel). Good restaurants and bars were also close by. We did not get a good, warm feel from most of the staff, although a couple were courteous. The bed was comfortable, and sheets appeared to be clean. The small four-cup coffee maker and blow dryer (barely hanging to the wall) were convenient, as were the small microwave, refrigerator and full-size ironing board. The shower/bath was large and appeared to be clean, and there were plenty of washcloths and towels, which also seemed clean.

All in all, the hotel was a disappointment, and we have decided we will not return when we visit Nashville again next year. The dirty bathroom floor, which was not cleaned at our request, was the nail in the coffin. For the price we paid though ($159 total for two nights), I suppose we should not have expected too much. Next time, we will dish out a little more money, which will enhance our total vacation experience.

This property is good value and the location is good in that its not too far to the various Nashville attractions. Its ten blocks from Downtown Nashville and right next door to Music Row, just off of I-40 but there's no noise from the traffic on the Interstate. However, we did have other noise issues.

The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area.

The rooms are very much standard and are clean. The hotel does provide a continental breakfast: cereals, donuts, make your own waffles, pastries, bagels, juice and coffee.

The biggest problem we had was noise in the early hours every night when young folk thought everyone should be enjoying their drunken behaviour. This was reported to reception staff who gave the impression that they were quite used to it and didn't intend trying to stop it!

Overall, the Comfort Inn is a good deal if you are staying in Nashville for the sights. It is very close to all the major attractions and offers rooms at a reasonable price compared to some of those Downtown.

My friend and I booked this Hotel back in February for 3 nights as part of our 60th birthday celebrations as we were old school friends and wanted some 'girlie' time. How happy we were that we did. This hotel was clean and friendly with a good buffet breakfast and was amazing value for money. I was ill on my first night and the way they looked after me was second to none! We found the location to be excellent and a taxi to downtown only cost between $5-$6. It cost around $25 to get a taxe to Opry Mills/Grand Ole Opry and if you visit Nashville you must book tickets for the show as it was fantastic. All in all we were totally happy with our stay. You cannot guarantee who will be staying at the Hotel at the same time as you but we found that all the people staying at the same time as us were really nice. Obvisously you are bound to get a little noise from people enjoying themselves but this happens everywhere, even in a 5* hotel. We were never disturbed by anyone. All in all a fantastic time and we left wanting more. Babs & Pam, Lancashire, England

Stayed at Comfort Inn on 25 May for 4 nights. Comfortable mid priced hotel with pool, staff friendly & fairly knowledgeable on local stuff. All rooms have exterior doors leading onto a corridor which is fine until you are kept awake by the late night revellers. A few inconsiderate individuals kept us awake until 2.00am one morning & 4.00am another time shouting & making a lot of noise. The area is okay but not within walking distance of downtown. One word of caution - be mindful of odd beggar types who will actually come into the pool area & hassle guests. One afternoon I was appoached by an older man on the street with some story about a broken thermostat on his truck wanting to borrow some money, I declined but unbelievably, he followed me into the hotel, where upon I reported him to the Manager but this odd character tried to pretend it was someone else! My feeling is this happens a lot, as the management did not seem overly concerned.

huge vanity area with full length mirror. the towels were a good size and very plush. the area with the tub and toilet was
quite small but VERY clean. nice tile in bathroom area. had a wall mount blow dryer that worked great. the water stayed
hot long enough for my husband then me to shower. carpet was nice and was clean. someone had set and iron on a

The Comfort Inn is in a convienent location for traveling to the main sights of Nashville. Rooms are plain, but generally clean and the beds comfortable.

Upkeep of the hotel is a bit of an enigma. Clearly efforts have been made to maintain the hotel in good condition, but the work appears shoddy in many places. In the morning, an army of cleaning persons roam around the hotel making up the rooms, sweeping, repairing external light fixtures, spackling and painting walls, and so on. They were all very nice to us, offering extra towels and making sure we had everything we needed, but it was hard to understand some of their efforts (e.g. dutifully mopping external stairs to rid them of dirt even though these stairs were stained orange from rust in many places).

I reccommend "Metro Livery" if you are going to travel around town. They are a towncar service that will charge you $8 to get just about anywhere (same or less than a cab). If you're lucky, they will send "Bulldog," a friendly and interesting character.

We thought this hotel would be good reading other reviews.....

To get into the main part of Nashville is a hike, you have to cross 2 busy roads (ramps off the interstate!) and walk for about 20-25 minutes.

There are a couple of bars and restaurants across the street, a bar doing burgers, a pizza place and an Irish bar that serves food, but all really busy. There really isn't anything else around the hotel.

There was a bunch of young kids staying and they were drinking beer and making noise from midnight, they were still making a noise as I left at 6.30am. Beer cans and cigarette ends adorning the walkways.

There is no security going round ensuring this doesn't happen, when I checked out no apology or even mention of it, when I did mention it they just ignored me.

All in all would not stay at this place ever again!!
