“Renaissance gets mixed reviews”
Reviewed March 31, 2006

We stayed at the Renaissance in a corner room in March 2006. The bathroom was huge and well appointed. The only problems were some mildew on the tile grout in the shower and around the counter faucet. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were nice and fluffy. The carpet was a bit worn in places. The closet wasn't in a user friendly location. It was located in a small hallway as you entered the room and the bathroom was on the other side of the room. This was a bit inconvenient for getting dressed. We had the two for breakfast promo and wished we hadn't wasted the extra money for breakfast. The buffet food was greasy, lukewarm, and the choices were minimal. We were told breakfast was until 11:00, when entered the restaurant at 9:45 and were told the buffet ended at 10:00. So, we were rushed to get our food and had to get everything we wanted at once because there wasn't time to go back for any additional items. The omelet station actually closed precisely after the our requests were completed.
The hotel location was great. We were within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go. There are many options for food and drink in the hotel. The staff was wonderful. An emergency required us to check out a day early, which we thought would be a hassle over rates, etc.., but it was smooth and effortless. We would definitely stay again.

And the Renaissance wins!!!

Let's face it, Opryland is overpriced. We checked out after one night and drove downtown to find a place to stay near the Ryman.

The Renaissance is the perfect location.

The beds were comfy and our room was quiet. Clean. An enjoyable stay.

Walked to the Ryman for the concert. Great!

Would also come back to stay and be able to walk to the Gaylord Entertainment Center to see the Predators (when the Ducks are in town of course!)

Recently stayed in the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Nashville, Tennessee as a leisure get away for my wife and myself. This hotel on many travel websites is listed as a 4 star hotel. In no way should this hotel be rated better than a 3 star hotel.

After requesting a king sized bed before traveling, we arrived later (around 10:00 pm) and were told that there were no king size rooms left. We were put in a room which had two double beds. This was fine but was disappointed to start the trip off. They did move us to a king size bedroom the next morning which was fine. Beds were confortable and clean and the hotel was fairly quiet. The bathrooms were simply poor. The sink in room number 1 was stopped up, the shower in BOTH rooms had brownish "mold" on the tile, and the toilet in room number one leaked causing it to run all night. The sink and toilet were understandable and most likely confined to my rooms but having mold in both bathrooms concerned me.

The extra qualities you expect from a 4 star hotel were just not there. The hotel was "very average is what I am trying to get across. Nothing in this hotel will make you say "WOW" and nothing will make you so disgusted that you will leave. A decent hotel with average quality rooms and service. Upkeep was average as well.

Parking on weekends was just 4 dollars per day (no in and out). This hotel was in a good area downtown and you could walk to all attractions downtown easily.

Other hotels to consider downtown before booking this would be the Hilton, Sheraton and the Marriott Courtyard Downtown.

Just got back from a stay at the Nashville Renaissance, a wonderful hotel in the heart of downtown Nashville, TN.

The room I stayed in (1616) was fairly large and though near both the elevator and the ice machine, neither could be heard from in the room. The bathroom featured wonderful soaps, the beds were very comfortable with great linens, and the hotel itself had a really positive vibe.

I'd highly recommend eating at the Commerce Grille downstairs in the lobby, it's quick, the wine list is great and the food was fantastic. I started with tuna tartare, then had the maple glazed chicken.

The one thing I'd caution against is keeping your car with the valet, as the total cost is $20 a night with tax to have the valet park it, and they took their time answering my call in the morning when I needed to pick up my car.

Otherwise, an excellent hotel with caring front-desk staff.

Note: While the hotel is in the heart of downtown, Nashville at night is pretty lame. Don't expect to be able to buy anything out there after 6 (like from a pharmacy, for instance). Nashville as a whole is kind of boring...

I have noticed that some of these reviews are negative, but I felt the hotel had many positive attributes to offer. Many times people focus on the most pointless things when they travel and they complain too much! I travel to Nashville frequently on business and have stayed at the Downtown Hilton and Sheraton Music City and this hotel rises above. Below are the reasons:

1) Very comfortable bed, nice room, excellent view.
2) 5 elevators, extremely fast, no waiting
3) Great weight room, with free weights..unheard of these days for a business traveler!
4) Excellent concierge, very helpful, would call and make restaurant reservations without you even asking.
5) On-site bar and lounge, very convenient for late night activity
6) Excellent downtown location, within walking distance to all the bars, restautants, and music spots!
7) Great breakfast buffet, and room service. Ordered a pizza at 3 am, no problem!

*My only complaint is the difficulty in checking in and parking. There is not much room to valet, but given the location it is understandable.

I was very disappointed with this hotel. The room was tiny!! Overlooked a great view of apts next door and the heating and air units for the hotel. We didn't have a bad experience here, but for the price $(149) a night, I expect great customer service, and a comfortable room. We recieved neither. The desk clerks were very "dry". Had no personality. Seemed to not want to be there. Beds were comfy. Room was clean. Other than that, I've stayed at Holiday Inns that provide better service for their customers. It is very close to the Gaylord Center and Downtown. We walked everywhere we went. And parked across the street in the garage for $4 a day. All in all, if you are here for business, great hotel. Vacations would be very cramped and expensive. Not worth it!!
