“Great location”
Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

I spent 3 nights here this past week with my family. The rooms were very clean. The location was great. It is situated within walking distance of all of the downtown attractions. The kids loved the pool and the fitness room was well equipped. We stayed on the 22nd floor and had great views of the city. The staff was very friendly. The only downside was that one of our rooms didn't have a mini frig.

I had always wanted to stay at this property, seeing as it costs less than the Hilton, Union Station and Hermitage, but I see why now. The lobby was unimpressive. There were only 2 operating elevators out of 5 and our room was on the 25th floor, so much of our time was spent waiting. The room was very small with an uncomfortable bed. The fridge was a surprise, it wasn't mentioned on the website. We were on the concierge level, yet I never saw anything special. It was extremely loud at night, seems to be a real party place, not that that can be controlled. The bathroom was huge and even had a TV! Major wasted space though, could've had a nice, big tub, but all was standard. It's about a 4 block walk from downtown, yet their parking is more expensive than Hilton, which is in the center. Not a bad hotel by any means, just not any sort of luxuries or much comfort.

Room Tip: Get a low floor to be able to take stairs and skip long elevator lines. Also, corner rooms sound nic...

The rooms are nothing to rave about, but the service was very good, start to finish with everyone. The staff in the concierge lounge were wonderful and the bellman in the lobby were very helpful. Elevators were a bit slow. There is a good Starbucks in the lobby, good bar on the third floor, and the hotel location is good. About one block from the Ryman Auditorium and two blocks from Broadway where the bars/restaurants are located.

First, I will say that the staff is extremely friendly and helpful at this hotel. Katherine in concierge lounge is amazing! Great location.
The room did not compare to other Renaissance properties I've stayed at. Not worth the price. The hotel is due for a make over! Thin walls as well. Noisy hall.

Room Tip: Away from elevators

The Renaissance was probably nice at one time. Now, it is a bit old and tired. The elevators are slow and you may have to wait for several minutes (10 or more). The rooms are clean and comfortable, but not nice.

We had a very fun time in the bar on the 3rd floor. There were a lot of hard drinking men and women there on a Friday night. I really liked the location and I was able to walk all over town from the hotel.

Lobby is nice....that's where it ends. The two amenities are Starbucks and the kiosk where you can print your boarding pass. That's pretty much where it ends. Restaurant has terrible service and mediocre food. One day I stayed out of the room from 7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and the maid never came. I tracked down the cart and got myself some coffee for the next day. I did not complain as she told me she was very busy, I was tired and I just wanted to lay down and I had towels for the next day. Not to mention the guy yelling obscenities in the hallway on Friday night at 2:30 a.m. and slamming doors. Although I got the block room rate, there was no fridge and no micro for $153.00. You could absolutely do much better if you name your price somewhere else.

Room Tip: ha! stay home.
