Dinner was excellent. Both meals were terrific, even dessert was great. Love the setting and the vibe. Good service, but initial service and seating could have been better. Only flaw in the visit.

We had dinner at this retrofitted and eclectic establishment.
They are serving food here in a former filling station in a tough neighborhood. The bill of fare changes every day, so there will be some surprises. The menu has an appetizer and two courses, not counting dessert.
Our server was Matt and he was very smooth.
We started with Artisan cabrito cheese from Spain. This was a "to share" plate and it arrived with sweet cooked apples and slices of toasted French Bread.
The first course was a salad of lettuces with radishes, croutons, and parmesan with buttermilk dressing for my BW. I had cauliflower salad with apples, currants, almonds, and red onions.
The second course I had the roasted chicken breast with Bok Choy and rice. My BW had giant scallops on kale and turnip puree in an herb butter sauce. Both entrees were excellent.
Our desserts were the brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge, and the apple stack cake with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Both desserts were delicious, but the quantity was miniscule.
We had a bottle of French wine that was a blend of merlot and malbec. My concern here
is that there are no American varietals on their wine list. We are huge fans of US wines
because the taste and variety rivals those of Europe, and are better values.
This place is pretentious without appearing so, it is also a great dining experience.

Be sure to make a reservation.
$16 for a big serving of summer squash casserole? Not really worth it.
However, the trout was good, the watermelon soup was good and the peanut ice cream was delicious.
We had excellent service and our waitress even called a cab and recommended a great place to go downtown for music.
We were there on a very hot night and we made the mistake of sitting upstairs where the view was great but it was so HOT! We were sweating the entire meal.
Nice wine and beer selection. But the meal was kind of pricey and nothing was incredibly delicious ... except the peanut ice cream.

A highlight of our trip to Nashville. Each day's menu is subject to change depending on what is then fresh locally. Our entire meal and the accompanying service was flawless. While this was our first visit to Margot Cafe (although we had had brunch earlier in the day at the nearby affiliated Marche restaurant) Chef Margot McCormack has seemed to have mastered the challenge of producing consistently outstanding, fresh and innovative meals. While others may consider the meals pricey, I didn't at all as for me, the value of the food and experience was there.

We went to Margot's Cafe after attending the Tomato Festival. Everything was crowded, but Margot's had no wait so we said why not. The service was great and the food was good. The menu is limited and in my opinion overpriced.

Just my opinion and certainly nothing negative to say, but I would not go back.
