My youngest child attends college in Nashville and just had to bring me here on my first visit. She raved about their fruit tea and sandwiches. It's an order at the counter type of place - frequently by many students - but has large seating area with an urban feel to it. There are many selections to choose from and many of them health conscious such as; salads, homemade soups, breads, and a desert area which offers cookies, cupcakes , etc. I have really enjoyed the made-to-order sandwiches and yes, the fruit tea is really different but delicious! The coffee is nice and strong ...prices are reasonable too. It's a place we keep going back to - would highly recommend.

Bread and Company benefits significantly from its excellent location near the Vanderbilt Bookstore, the campus and several nearby hotels. To be honest, the food is good. I don't think it is as exceptional as other reviewers found it to be, but if you are looking for good, fresh salads, soups and sandwiches, they do a good job. My issues are with the very confusing and disorganized process and with the extremely lackadaisical service. I've visited the restaurant six or more times in the past two years because I like salads for lunch and, as noted before, this is a convenient location. I've visited when it was frantically busy and when it was nearly empty. The first time, you need to go with someone who has been before and understands the process (or lack thereof), knows where the menus are, knows how to write up a ticket for a salad or a sandwich (in different places), knows where to pay (seems to change location regularly), knows how to get plastic forks (behind the counter, you have to ask), etc., if needed. You need a tour guide to get through this place. Once you've figured the system out, you'll be dealing with their service issues. In contrast to the many other exceptionally friendly restaurants we've visited in Nashville, it is like the staff really doesn't want to be there and certainly doesn't have time to speak to you. Today, at 12:30 with the restaurant only half full and no one in line at the salad counter, the people in front of me asked where the menu was. The server pointed in a general direction and then turned her back on them. They finally found one, on their own, in a rack at the other end of the counter from where she pointed. And there was only one menu there. So if you are in the area and want a salad or sandwich, the food is good and it is fresh and freshly made. I would not go a minute out of my way to visit Bread and Company when there are so many wonderful places to eat in Nashville.

The tomato basil soup with sourdough bread at Bread and Company is hard to beat for a quick lunch on a cold day. Finding parking was a challenge, but it was worth the search because our lunch was so tasty.

Good sandwiches but very pricey. A place like this should be something a little bit more reasonable for the lunch time crowd. Expect to spend $10-15 dollars for lunch

parking may be difficult but well worth it...great salad, sandwhiches, pastries and soup...the fruit tea is the best. We always find time to go when visiting our family in town.
