Owner description: Established July 2012. Hank, Johnny, Chet, George, Tammy, Conway, Loretta, Dolly, Willie . . . There was a time when country music was on a first name basis with its fans. A time when the streets of downtown Nashville were alive with the sound of backroom guitar pulls, Midnight Jamborees and the Grand Ole Opry. Now you can recapture the magic of this golden era on the Walkin' Nashville Music City Legends Tour. Packed with history and behind-the-scenes anecdotes about your favorite country legends, this 90-minute walking tour tells the real story of how Nashville came to be called Music City. You'll see Printer's Alley, The Ryman Auditorium, Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, Ernest Tubb Record Shop and Hatch Show Print.Your friendly guide is Grammy-nominated journalist and musician, Bill DeMain. A longtime resident of Nashville, he will show you hidden corners of the city not found in any guidebook and tell you stories you won't hear on any other tour. Visit website for scheduling details.

I booked this tour based on the reviews on trip advisor. Bill is so knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable. Although you don't actually go "into" the auditorium or through the museum (that would be an all day tour!) what I know now about the places we visited compared to before the tour is huge! The tour isn't especially strenuous, however if it is warm and you are out if shape, bring a bottle of water, you do not stop except to listen and you don't want to miss anything. Our 13 year old son was a little bored but our 17 year old daughter enjoyed it. Not a tour I would take young kids on - they would make everyone else miserable unless they are VERY interested in the history of country music : )

Bill (a self proclaimed music nerd) has probably forgotten more about Nashville than most people will ever know. The tour was gripping and the stories that Bill tells along with each landmark or back alley just makes the tour that much more interesting. I would have never knew a manhole cover that I had walked over multiple times prior to the tour could be so interesting, and yes I said manhole cover! He knows the city like no other and I would recommend the first thing to do when visiting Nashville is take this tour!

My two daughters (23 yo and 21 yo) and I did the Walkin' Nashville tour with Bill DeMain. The tour took about 1.5 hours and covered many of the downtown Nashville places of interest - as far as country music is concerned. Bill did a fantastic job of filling us ( a group of about 20 people) in on the lesser known places and history of country music as it evolved from the '50s through to the '60s and beyond. His personal insights and experiences really made this walking tour worthwhile. I thoroughly recommend this tour if you're looking for more in depth information about the quirky and lesser known aspects of the evolution of country music (and music more broadly) in Nashville and its impact on music in the US and the world.

Bill's tour is unique due to his own musical history and knowledge, and we would mirror others' advice that doing it at the beginning of a trip is ideal as he has knowledge of which venues to seek on which days and evenings as well as his amazing stories about the places visited and his personal experiences. Definitely not to be missed.

An excellent introduction to the place, especially if you've not visited before. Bill's knowledge can handle the trickiest of "off-topic" questions. You get a good list of "essentials" but don't be afraid to ask for hints and tips for what else to do. Had a rubbish night in Roberts the evening before the walk but went back on his recommendation and had a great time. Also caught Caitlin Rose at The Grand Ole Opry which we would have missed otherwise.

And anyone who recommends Caitlin Rose as one to watch has to know what they're talking about.
