Owner description: Established July 2012. Hank, Johnny, Chet, George, Tammy, Conway, Loretta, Dolly, Willie . . . There was a time when country music was on a first name basis with its fans. A time when the streets of downtown Nashville were alive with the sound of backroom guitar pulls, Midnight Jamborees and the Grand Ole Opry. Now you can recapture the magic of this golden era on the Walkin' Nashville Music City Legends Tour. Packed with history and behind-the-scenes anecdotes about your favorite country legends, this 90-minute walking tour tells the real story of how Nashville came to be called Music City. You'll see Printer's Alley, The Ryman Auditorium, Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, Ernest Tubb Record Shop and Hatch Show Print.Your friendly guide is Grammy-nominated journalist and musician, Bill DeMain. A longtime resident of Nashville, he will show you hidden corners of the city not found in any guidebook and tell you stories you won't hear on any other tour. Visit website for scheduling details.

Hard to see how this tour could be bettered. No needed to be a country music fan to enjoy it but you might be one after it. And you might even try to create your own Conway Twitty Burger...

Walkin' Nashville is a must do while visiting this great city. Bill really knows his music history and shares some interesting stories too. The groups are the perfect size. Bring a bottle of water if it's warm though he tries to keep everyone in the shade. Try to book your walk at the beginning of your stay in Nashville so you can return and enjoy all the places you'll learn about. Probably one of the best walking tours I've been on! What a perfect way to learn about the city.

This was such a great way to tour a lot of the famous sites in downtown Nashville and understand just why they're so important. You can really tell tour guide Bill DeMain knows his stuff when it comes to the music scene (primarily country, but it goes beyond that) in Nashville. He had lots of interesting stories to tell and helped me really appreciate the role music played in the city's history. He was very personable and seemed to love answering our questions and getting us involved in the tour, including handing out prizes for people who answered trivia questions. I find that tours can really hang on whether the group gets into it - some will lag because everyone just sits there silently when the tour guide asks if they have any questions, so I really appreciated that he took that extra step to draw us out. The tour was also a great way to push me to see sites I might not have gone on to on my own, like Hatch Prints, which I ended up loving.

The only con comes with any outdoor activity you do in Nashville in summer - the heat. The tour starts at 10:30 a.m., so although the sun wasn't blazing yet, it was getting there. Wear light clothing and comfortable walking shoes. He does do a good job of finding shady places for you to rest in at each stop a long the way.

Probably the best part overall, though, was that he emailed us links afterward to songs he had talked about on the tour. I loved that he cared that much to follow through. He also sent us suggestions on places to go hear music for the weekend. Overall, one of my top three favorite experiences in Nashville.

After reading all the reviews you begin to wonder if this tour could really be that good, well last it really is! We took Bill's tour on the one year anniversary of his tour and enjoyed every minute. I hope it's the first of many anniversaries for him. The city of Nashville and country music couldn't have a better ambassador than Bill! Truly fascinating!

This is a "must" if you're visiting Nashville. We had three generations of family with us on the tour - ages 77 to 17, and we all agreed that it was our favorite Nashville experience. It enhanced our visits to the Ryman and the Country Music Hall of Fame as well. Bill is an excellent guide. He has a passion for his subject and it's infectious!
