Owner description: Established July 2012. Hank, Johnny, Chet, George, Tammy, Conway, Loretta, Dolly, Willie . . . There was a time when country music was on a first name basis with its fans. A time when the streets of downtown Nashville were alive with the sound of backroom guitar pulls, Midnight Jamborees and the Grand Ole Opry. Now you can recapture the magic of this golden era on the Walkin' Nashville Music City Legends Tour. Packed with history and behind-the-scenes anecdotes about your favorite country legends, this 90-minute walking tour tells the real story of how Nashville came to be called Music City. You'll see Printer's Alley, The Ryman Auditorium, Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, Ernest Tubb Record Shop and Hatch Show Print.Your friendly guide is Grammy-nominated journalist and musician, Bill DeMain. A longtime resident of Nashville, he will show you hidden corners of the city not found in any guidebook and tell you stories you won't hear on any other tour. Visit website for scheduling details.

Bill had clearly done his homework. Unlike some tours where you feel like the guide just memorized a script written by someone else, it was obvious that Bill really knew his subject matter. This was a great tour and a real opportunity to learn about many of the colorful characters that have been a part of the Nashville music scene from Chet Atkins to Paul McCartney. Although primarily focused on Nashville's music scene, there are a few other historic tidbits thrown in. Great for locals as well as tourists.

Great downtown walking tour of Music City filled with anecdotes, insights, AND many little known details of this special city. Creator/guide is a well respected musician and journalist who has interviewed many of country music's legends so he has wonderful stories to share AND he knows his stuff! Get the history AND little known backstories of Printer's Alley, Ryman Auditorium, Tootsies and much more. Also discover many secret treasures. You will get a real feel for what made Music City--MUSIC CITY!

Lasts about 90 minutes. Easily walkable. Highly recommend.

Beyond the neon lights and the shadow of the Ryman, there are the (possibly literally) the ghosts of country music that over the past century have made Nashville what it is. Bill does a great job pacing the tour, connecting the history and development of Nashville and the music scene to what we now see today. As others have mentioned, Bill's wealth of knowledge is truly an asset and I learned more about Nashville in this 90 minute period than I have in my years of living here. To understand why Nashville has developed into a world class city and a international capital of music, I highly recommend taking this tour. Bill was a very conscientious guide, knowing where great spots to stop were (in the shade-hey, Nashville can be hot in the summer) and providing a vivid account of what is what and who is who in Nashville. The music, the architecture, and the people that make up Nashville are fantastically highlighted in this great tour.

What an amazing tour! I learned so much about Nashville, it's musical history, people and landmarks. Bill is a wonderful story teller and tour guide and told us lots of interesting information based on his experiences as a musician, writer and historian. This would be a great activity for anyone's first day in Nashville, as it gives an overview of some of the highlights of the city and provides lots of ideas on places you might want to spend a little more time. Highly recommended!

This walking tour in downtown Nashville with Bill DeMain is absolutely on the “must do” list for out of town visitors (as well as the locals!). I learned so much about Nashville and music business history that I didn’t know and I have lived here over 30 years. It was fabulous. Nicely paced. Bill is a delightful guide and you will hear many interesting facts and stories that you will not get on your typical Nashville tour. You will be pleased!!
