The Nashville Public Library is awesome! I take my kids the library at least once a week, sometimes more. We love the downtown branch, but most of the other branches we have been to are excellent as well. I don't recommend the East Branch, however. The Edmonson Pike Branch is especially nice. The library always offers free programs for kids and now there is a homeschool day.

This is a gorgeous library in the heart of the city. Very comprehensive collection of books and memorabilia housed in a beautiful setting. We also used the attached parking garage as a jumping off point for downtown sightseeing and were able to get our parking ticket validated in the library.

The downtown library replaced a mall in the heart of town. It should be a 'must visit' for locals and out of towners. The architecture and design rivals any library in the country. The children's section is large and has several quiet nooks as well as small play areas. Their is also a craft room and theatre. The puppet department and shows are world class. The late famous puppeteer Tom Tichener donated his creations to the library and are a must see for all ages. On the same floor(2) is a courtyard garden which is a wonderful reprieve from the city. The beds and pots are planted beautifully and it's an oasis. During August and September there are weekly concerts which are excellent.

In addition to the usual library fare of reading materials, a visit to this library is worth it for the architecture and collection of historic photos throughout the building.

My daughter and I use Nashville's libraries often. She looks for books while I use the Wi-fi. After she pronounced that my neighborhood library had 'less books than her middle school', I took her to the downtown library. She walked into the impressive multi-story lobby and said, 'Wow! This is nerd heaven!'

The impressive, classically styled building has a large footprint in downtown Nashville. Among the special rooms there are a teen center and a room commemorating Nashville's role in the civil rights movement. The atrium lobby, courtyard, reading rooms and public areas are impressive. Books can be found and checked out via conveniently located computers.

The library is adjacent to a park popular with the homeless, and some of them are milling about or using the library, but in my many visits there have been no problems related to their presence.

This is possibly one of the finest library facilities in the country and worth a visit. There are also two original Carnegie library buildings still in use in North and East Nashville. They are quite small but of interest to library 'nerds'.
