“Easy off I40.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2012

I've passed this exit (Stewart Ferry) a hundred times, and decided to stop today for a gyro. I'm glad I did. As noted, the shopping center's a little shabby, but my Gyro Combo was very good, hot off the grill and topped with my choice of fixings. It had the convenience of being near the interstate and fairly quick service without the routine sameness of chain food at most interchanges.

“Good Greek, Low On Ambience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2012

House of Gyros is located in a strip mall along Stewart's Ferry Pike, about 1/4-mile north of I-40. The food is consistently good -- I've been going for years -- and the restaurant gets good reviews on other sites.

The shopping center parking lot has ample room but is in rough shape. Inside the restaurant are booths and tables for about 30 people, though the place does a brisk to-go business. Health scores are consistently good (93 is the most recent as of this review).

Like other strip-mall Greek restaurants, the menu offers the usual gyro meat and chicken options in the traditional pita gyros or on plates. Side items include the standards of fries, tabouli, or salad. Service is counter-service, you get your own drinks.

What makes House of Gyros stand out for me is the meat here -- both gyro and chicken -- is seasoned differently than at other restaurants, and has more peppery flavor to it. On request the chef will also add grilled onions and peppers to your plate or sandwich, which brings the flavor up another notch. Pitas are heated on the grill, too, not tossed in the microwave -- another personal touch I appreciate.

KJ's Bakery recently opened inside House Of Gyros, offering baklava, Middle Eastern sweets, and other items like tres leches and special-order cakes.
