Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University

Certificate of Excellence

Stayed 2 nights in early October. Check-in was quick and the desk staff accommodated us with our room preference overlooking the stadium. Our room was spacious, clean, and quiet although the doors are VERY noisy when closing. The bed was extremely soft, and both of us had backaches. Location is perfect for the Vanderbilt area and there are several restaurants within walking distance. Self parking in a covered garage very near the hotel is $24/day. We did not use WiFi.

Room Tip: Views on the back right side of the hotel have the best view of the stadium.

This Marriott property is not a whole lot different from the standard cookie cutter Marriott full service model. The rooms were predictably fine, the quality of the breakfast seemed the same as other Marriotts at which we've lodged. There was a small, well kept fitness center and pool with a nice view of the Vanderbilt football stadium. As usual, I was disappointed to see that this chain is still sticking with the disgustingly overscented Bath & Body Works bathroom amenities. I've learned to bring leftovers from prior alternative hotel stays.
The area where it excelled was the staff. We were there as part of a large group event. And all members of the service staff kept up with the increased volume/mayhem that came with hosting such a tremendous assembly of individuals from all over the country, always maintaining their enthusiasm and "want to do" attitude. This went from the front desk staff (where designated hitters from distant Marriott properties had been summoned to assist this week) to housekeeping and those at the bell captain's desk. An excellent bonus with this hotel was the shuttle service to short range destinations, such as downtown and The Gulch. With about 15 minutes notice, you could save on cab fare and be driven by yet another employee with the right attitude!
We were pleasantly surprised to find a fridge in the room, but equally surprised to NOT find a safe in the closet or a concierge desk to assist with leisure time plans in this unique tourist destination. There are plenty of stores and restaurants immediately nearby if venturing far from this appealing West End location is not part of your agenda.

Room Tip: Front rooms on right side of hotel provide nice view of Parthenon, back side of hotel overlooks Vand...

Attended a conference that was being held at the hotel. While the location of the hotel is great for visiting Nashville, the rooms are very poor quality. The decor of the rooms is dated. We initially were placed in a room on the 6th floor and after noisy neighbors, a seemingly endless barrage dumpster emptying carried out at 4am and a plumbing issue that continued to obscurely make a gurgling noise, we were moved to a room on the 8th floor the following two nights. This room was more quiet (although we could hear every sniff, sneeze and cackle from our adjoining neighbors).

The lobby / restaurant area of the hotel is fine. It is up to date, well lit and clearly a marked improvement over the pitiful rooms. The staff of the hotel, including the bell staff, were quite pleasant. We did ask one staff member for recommendations on sitting services for our daughter while we went out for dinner a couple of nights and were told very forcefully that the hotel doesn't recommend services because of the liability involved. This seems odd considering the hotel will willingly call a taxi upon request, oblige one with multiple dining recommendations and even book tours of the city for interested parties. So, we called another hotel that we have stayed at in Nashville on prior trips and were quite pleased with the professional service that they promptly recommended.

If you're going to Nashville for business or pleasure, check out one of the other many fine properties in the city. Unless you're attending a conference that is directly based out of this Marriott, there is no other reason to stay here.

I stayed here for 4 nights for a conference in September 2013. The guest rooms are non-descript, expensive for what they are, and the parking is pricey. The beds are the highlight of the guest room experience, being very comfortable. I slept like a baby! The hotel is about 2 miles from downtown, and the best part of this hotel is their on-demand shuttle service if you choose not to rent a car. They will take you downtown and you can call for a pick-up anytime up until 11pm and they will be there within 10-15 minutes. All of the drivers are incredibly polite, friendly and helpful. The front-desk staff are equally as accommodating. The location is good if you want to be near the Vanderbilt campus, and there are many good dining options nearby. Centennial Park and the Parthenon replica are right across the street, which our room overlooked. The back of the hotel overlooks the Vanderbilt football stadium. Request a room on a higher floor for a nice view.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on a high floor for a nice view.

Great location for Vanderbilt and Centennial Park. Good food at the restaurant. The concierge level has a hot breakfast buffet included with a great stadium view. Nice towels and bed. NO ROOM SAFE though. Very nice staff.

After receiving a complimentary upgrade (9th floor view of Centennial Park) we were very pleased with the comfort of the Marriott bed. I wish my personal bed at home slept this well. We had a great view. This hotel has a free shuttle the will take you a 2 mile radius (+ tip of course). They will even pick you up during operating hours to return to hotel. The hotel is nice but more 3.5 star in my opinion. ( takes a lot for my 4 star though)

We didn't like the parking situation or added fees for parking. Be sure to inquire on this and be aware of any other fees before you book.

I stayed for 3 nights on business. Check in was friendly and efficient and my room overlooked the Centennial Park. It's standard Marriott fare, which is why I love Marriott. Comfortable bed, decent products, well soundproofed rooms. The Vanderbilt location is really set apart by the excellent staff - always felt welcome and that nothing was too much trouble.

The location is great for exploring the west end / Vanderbilt area. It's over a mile to downtown, but the hotel has a complimentary shuttle that will take you in a 2 mile radius. There are some high-end chain restaurants next to the hotel (Flemings, PF Changs and J Alexander's) but some more local places can be found after a short walk. It's on the Vanderbilt University ground and felt friendly and safe.

The concierge lounge provides a great view of the Vanderbilt football field and the attendants were incredibly friendly. The pool is small, but well maintained. I'd definitely stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: Facing Centennial Park gave me a wonderful view every morning.
