The Inn at Opryland, A Gaylord Hotel
Ranked #69 of 159 Hotels in Nashville
Reviewed June 5, 2013

For our first visit to Nashville we chose this hotel for it's close proximity to The Grand Ole Opry. Having never been to the area, I didn't realize that there is a large resort hotel with a golf course, an outlet mall with movie theaters surrounding the venue. This hotel was across the street. It is located about 20 minutes from downtown Nashville....a very easy drive.
The hotel itself was fairly large with a number of restaurants within walking distance and freeway access was great. It has an indoor pool, a coffee bar and it's own restaurant. No review for that as we didn't eat there. It's like being in a pyramid inside. Lots of glass so it's light and airy feeling. The room was large and clean and the bed was comfortable. We had a bit of a glitch with our type of room but that was a computer problem and the staff was on top of it and got everything squared away quickly.

I feel I made the right choice in selecting this Hotel while visiting Nashville,You could take the shuttle bus to many locations, was not so confusing like the Gaylord Opryland and cheaper, good restaurant, and a Cracker Barrel right across the street and many fine places to eat within a short walk, small but real nice Fitness center with state of the art equipment, inside pool with hot tub,I would request an inside room for quiet and privacy ,and a nice little breakfast bar inside where you can relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and use your free wifi,I would go tjhere again when in Nashville

Room Tip: Always ask for inside room, very quiet

My husband & I stayed here in May, 2013 for 1 night. We found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. My only complaint was that the rooms were a bit dark inside....not enough lights and the bathroom area was tiny. But the bed was comfy and the free parking and internet were very nice. Location is great. We walked across the parking lot in the morning and had breakfast at Cracker Barrel.

Room Tip: Don't get a room near the pool if children hollering bothers you. It can get loud over there.

Unlike the Gaylord Opryland across the street that will nickel and dime you for everything from Shuttles, to Parking, to Food, I managed to book the Inn at Opryland at $60 a night thorugh Hotwire. The rooms are clean and modern, the parking is free, there is a free shuttle to the Gaylord Opryland convention center (or you walk there in 10 minutes), there are some great country music bars next door... what's not to like! My advice, stay away from Gaylord Opryland and stay here instead!

Gaylord properties are a new addition to the Marriott line. I can see how they really want to fit in. They have a friendly staff, nice and clean locations in desirable locations; however the Gaylord brand is missing the mark. This is likely why they went from a huge entertainment industry business to mess that their corporate structure is in now.

The staff is doing great. Friendly, service oriented, and attentive. The problem at this property is deeper than that. They are trying to be everything to everybody, and they have lost their identity and their likability.

The front line staff is carting the business. I experienced a convention in a "motel/inn" environment, while watching a religious group struggle with their meeting needs because of the many booths set up to support the convention goers. Both the convention and the religious group goers were vocal about their negative experience, and all of the unnecessary drama poured over into my ability to enjoy the facilities.

Parking was a huge problem. If staying here, check to see what events are going on at the location prior to booking.

Room Tip: I suggest staying on an inside room on the first floor.

Erik did everything he could to accommodate us even though we had booked with a third party company who mistakenly told us we could have a roll away when a roll away wouldn't even fit in the room. Erik went beyond the call of duty to give us a free upgrade to a suite to accommodate the third person in our party. We arrived and found a clean, newly renovated comfortable room. We would definitely stay here again.

If you can't afford to stay at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, this would be the nicest, closest next best thing! It still puts you in the same area for less price & less frills. It's a nice place to rest your head...but not to get pampered if that's what your looking for!
