Owner description: Located in the shadow of the Capitol in downtown Nashville, Bicentennial Capitol Mall gives visitors a taste of Tennessee’s history, natural wonders and serves as a lasting monument to Tennessee’s Bicentennial Celebration, which was June 1, 1996. During the urban building boom in downtown Nashville during the late 1950s and early 1960s, the Tennessee State Capitol disappeared from sight on the east, west and south sides. The northern side of the Capitol was not conducive to the construction of skyscrapers due to the swampy conditions that existed in many areas between the Capitol and the Cumberland River. Because of its natural attributes, the historic French Lick that attracted wildlife, Native Americans, trappers and settlers to what would become Nashville also preserved the remaining view of the Capitol and became the home of the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. With just a simple walk in the 19-acre park visitors can experience many facets of Tennessee’s history including a 200-foot granite map of the state, a World War II Memorial, a 95-Bell Carillon, a Pathway of History and the Rivers of Tennessee Fountains. The 11 planters along the Walkway of Counties show native plant species from different regions of the state. The two page park map is a helpful and informative tool for those wishing to take a self-guided tour of the park. If you are a history buff, this is the place for you. Throughout the park there are many areas with plaques etc that has information. There is a concert venue, water fountains and the farmers market and flea market. Other events are planned so you can check that out also. There was an old time baseball game going on when we were there. No baseball mitts, a stick for the bat, old uniforms. We passed through this on the hop on bus tour.

My family and I went here and we had the best time. The grounds are beautiful and it is a great place to tour and just relax. The day we went it was beautiful outside and there was alot of people there just sitting out on blankets, taking pictures, walking. Just having a pleasant day.

We first viewed the park as part of a hop-on, hop-off tour, so when we hopped off, we knew what we were looking at. Large area to explore with a fascinating historical timeline. The area includes an amphitheater, a map of Nashville, a WWII exhibit, and much more. The Farmer's market is across the street. The market is open 362 days a year and is a great place for lunch.

This is a pretty place in downtown Nashville. There are lots of memorials and historical information etched in the walls and ground to look at, including a huge map of Tennessee. Also there is a fountain for the kids to splash around in, with picnic tables nearby under the elevated train tracks. Bring a lunch or buy some food at the indoor food court at the farmer's market next door.
