Owner description: Located in the shadow of the Capitol in downtown Nashville, Bicentennial Capitol Mall gives visitors a taste of Tennessee’s history, natural wonders and serves as a lasting monument to Tennessee’s Bicentennial Celebration, which was June 1, 1996. During the urban building boom in downtown Nashville during the late 1950s and early 1960s, the Tennessee State Capitol disappeared from sight on the east, west and south sides. The northern side of the Capitol was not conducive to the construction of skyscrapers due to the swampy conditions that existed in many areas between the Capitol and the Cumberland River. Because of its natural attributes, the historic French Lick that attracted wildlife, Native Americans, trappers and settlers to what would become Nashville also preserved the remaining view of the Capitol and became the home of the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. With just a simple walk in the 19-acre park visitors can experience many facets of Tennessee’s history including a 200-foot granite map of the state, a World War II Memorial, a 95-Bell Carillon, a Pathway of History and the Rivers of Tennessee Fountains. The 11 planters along the Walkway of Counties show native plant species from different regions of the state. The two page park map is a helpful and informative tool for those wishing to take a self-guided tour of the park. We enjoyed walking around the park. the leaves were yellow and red on the trees. It was very pretty. We took some nice pictures in the park. We enjoyed seeing the sights here. This is a nice free place to go while in Nashville. Free parking was a hug plus!
You can visit the flea market and farmers market and then take a walk in the park. There is also an area to go inside and have a meal.

A lot of stuff to read at the park so very educational to the natural history of the state. And city market which adjoins it is a great place to grab a bite and a drink at a low price

After hearing about the Bicentennial Park on the Hop On / Hop Off Tour, we returned the next day and spent the morning in the park. My sister-in-law and I are "history buffs" and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our husbands, while not as enthusiastic as we are, still had a good time. The map of Tennessee, with all the rivers and major towns, grabbed our attention and we had a good time exploring the state. I particularly enjoyed following the many rivers. The timeline is very well done. The break at the Civil War is a show stopper. I wish every state would imitate this wonderful historical exhibit.

Lovely area for a peaceful walk. Went on a bus trip and stopped for 5 mins to hear the bells. Liked it so much went back the next day to hear them properly. Great view of the Capitol building from the centre of the bells. Great idea to show where to stand to hear the echo of your whisper.
The bells play different tunes...sounds fantastic.

It was refreshing and cute to see this site. I really like the food at the small farmers market and the fact that all my adventures in downtown Nashville were easily accessible by the bus system, make life fun for me being on my own. I had a great time exploring Nashville.
