Awesome meal. 3 different kinds of eggs Benedict which all looked amazing. Only wish the plantation was open to tour!

“Horses, horses, and history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2014

If you love the horse racing industry, you must see this planation. Here is the start of a great line of racing horses. The guides are great, the house is large, and the grounds are well maintained. There is a wine tasting on the property along with a great gift shop. This planation is used for weddings, reunions and other get together themes. The only problems with the tour is that you cannot take pictures inside the house. But you can get a book in the gift shop that tells about the history, has recipes and a whole lot of pictures.

“Not really up to par”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2014

We usually try to take a home tour when we visit a new city, and so have seen many (we were on vacation this time with our grown son and his girlfriend). The grounds were disappointing, large brown patches in the grass and untrimmed bushes made the property look unloved. The outbuildings were either closed-up or left empty, so walking through the slave cabins, for example, was uninformative and boring. Just an empty building with no idea of how the people lived there - no rope beds, tables, trunks, or anything to give a hint. The outside, unguided tour was boring and took only about 15 minutes. Inside the house was better and our tour guide (the only one) was fun. The wine tasting seemed like a hard sell, although the "host" was entertaining. The girl behind the ticket counter was rude and didn't put her cell phone away. Thought the $16 charge was a bit high.

“Not what I expected ”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2014 via mobile

You pull in and park right off the road. Normally you think of sprawling green lawns and garden. From the mansion you could see the main road and all the other commercialized parts of town. After visiting South Carolina and Georgia's plantations I was slightly disappointed. The history was great and the tour guide was good. Besides the mansion there was not much to see and a quick walk around finished our visit. I would only visit if you had the extra time in your trip don't make it a priority.

“Loved It”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2014

This was actually one of my favorite attractions. I love seeing the history of how people actually lived in different eras. There is a different guide(narrator) in each part of the house who is dressed in costume that describes the history of the family and talks about the house. Afterward there is a nice wine tasting as well. A very nice was to spend an afternoon.
