Owner description: Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

We toured this plantation because of the great reviews here . It is definately well worth the visit. Everyone we encountered was Great at their work . Friendly and lighthearted and very interesting to listen to during the tour. We could'nt quit talking about it. The have a very nice gift shoppe and wine to purchase as well., the proceeds help keep the Plantation going. We would go again

The Belle Meade Plantation makes for a nice tour on the outskirts of Nashville.
The history of the horse breeding business is interesting.
Most of the old plantation is gone to developments, but the property and house tour is still worth the visit.

My friends and I wanted to check out the winery at this place. We arrived and were told that we had to purchase tickets for the mansion tour, and after the 45 minute tour we would be allowed to access the winery. It's a good tour, takes about an hour, but realize you can't walk into the winery without paying $15 and spending an hour there.
