Owner description: Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

What a treasure to find in the middle of Nashville. Gorgeous grounds, a beautiful mansion, decorated to the Civil War time period. I do wish they'd had interpreters at some of the outbuildings and the slave homes. The winery was an added bonus-- great local wines. We ate at the onsite restaurant, which was also an added pleasure.

This mansion is steeped in history with the Civil War. The tour was so interesting and our guide was dressed in clothing from the time period. Elegant furnishings inside and wine tasting at the end of the tour. A must see when in and around Nashville.

We had small children and limited time so did not purchase the ticket for the guided tour of the actual mansion. But there was plenty to see with the grounds ticket. My children loved seeing the horses and the stables with all the antique coaches. We tasted a bit of the local wine. Toured the slave cabins and learned about the local history. Even had a rock in the chairs on the front and back porticos, including a short peek inside the windows. We enjoyed our hour and one/half of wondering around the gardens. First plantation my girls have experienced and they loved it.

We had a great young tour guide take us through the house and enjoyed learning about this family who raised horses. We were amazed to see the bathrooms they put into this mansion.

They even added a winery and I have to say, they have the best gift shop!

we spent an afternoon here. The tour guide was very knowledgeable as well as answered any other questions people in the group had. We paid a family rate for four which was $45 and a good deal. The mansion gets a guided tour and after that you can self tour any of the out buildings as well. Mansion is very beautiful and afterwards had a complementary wine tasting. Wine was delicious and we bought all four kinds that we had tasted. They said they shipped to WI, but once I went online, found out that they don't. A little disappointed about that. If you enjoy history, this is a nice plantation to go to, but know that it was about thoroughbreds and not a cotton or tobacco plantation.
