Owner description: Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

“Nice tour of a plantation style home”

This was part of an all day tour we took through the Grayline Tours. They had a nice gift shop and a short wine-tasting at the end. No pictures allowed inside the home. Interesting tour, but nothing to write home about.

Good Tour. House is very nice and is worth the trip. Love the stained glass tipped in gold. Always great to see how another era lived.

Nice tour of house and grounds. Very well done display of life stories in the slave cabins. Gift shop had some nice displays instead of junk.

“Wonderful presentation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

My sister and I were traveling through Nashville on a cross country trip and wanted to stop for just a short "sight seeing" adventure. After reading all the positive reviews of the Belle Meade Plantation, we decided this would be the perfect activity for a quick visit. We couldn't have been more pleased! It's a beautiful, well kept mansion and grounds. Our tour guide was just wonderful and provided us with a very informative glimpse into the life of a wealthy family in 1800's America. The tour lasted 45 minutes and we attended a short wine tasting afterwards (delicious!). I would highly recommend this plantation tour.

“Well Worth the Visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

This plantation boosts many of the original features, including furniture gathered over the years from people who had acquired it when the plantation had fallen on hard times. Much was traced through newspaper clippings from the time of auctions. But what set this tour apart was the tour guide, a historian writing about one of the early owners who had mined the history of the place and shared his vast knowledge with the visitors. He was a real find.
