Owner description: Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

The Belle Meade Plantation is very close to the Nashville City Center, but light years away. Very nice tour to take if you have the time. Actual tour of the Plantation home is 1 hour, with quite a bit of historical narrative that is informative. There are outbuildings as well that you can visit as a self tour. The session ends with a wine tasting, with wines available to purchase. There is a gift store and restaurant on site as well. The home is decorated for Christmas - not elaborate - but done during the period the home was in residence and nice to see. I highly recommend it.

The Belle Meade Plantation was a nice tour. The tour guide was very informative and the home and old wagons and carriages were fun to see. I have been on several home tours, this one was interesting and good place to relax for a couple of hours.

The weather was terrific for a day outside in November. The main house was decorated for Christmas with trees in every room from different times! The grounds were beautiful. The wine tasting was another delight. This is a great place to visit. The only negative thing was the rush our tour guy seemed to be in and his lack of Enthusiasm! He didn't really encourage questions nor did he provide anything extra to his rehearsed dialogue. It seemed his task was to get us through the house quickly which was sad because I would have liked to linger a bit. Also, it appeared that he added people to the tour so it was quite congested.

Take the tour! Tourguide was super knowledgable and fun. You begin on the front steps of an 1853 southern mansion and tour 2 floors of this beautiful home. The tour ends with a free tasting of the locally made wines. If you have time, buy a bottle and sit in the wine garden!

Small tour group, well informed guide, beautiful house and grounds close to town. Worth visiting--both husband and I enjoyed. Not too much walking, previously have taken teens and they enjoyed too. The grapes from the grounds are made into a local wine, sales of which benefit the upkeep of the house.
