Owner description: Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

“Lovely and enjoyable!”

Although it is a big tourist destination, and I tend to shy away from these sorts of places (I like off the beaten path best), this is a must see. The objects are not behind plexiglass, which adds an element of realism (though you are not allowed to take photos inside). The tours are given by guides in period dress, pretty cool. There is also a free winery tasting, Nice! Make it a priority to see!

“Interesting, but not riveting”

The tour and the docents who present it are what makes this place worth the time. By itself it is just another Victorian home. When you hear the history and the tales, it comes alive. Worth a visit, but not if you skip something else to see it.

“The holiday decorations make it even more fun!”

With the addition of a better gift store/restaurant this has become an even better place to visit. This one is the favorite of the ladies in the family since it's easy to walk around, close to town and has a tea room!

“Wonderful experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012

This is a wonderful place to learn some of the history of Nashville and the area. The tour guide was very personal and informative. We enjoyed the stories she had to tell. The mansion tour was a little long with a lot of standing, but the house was beautiful and definitely worth seeing. We also loved the grounds and everything there was to see. The wines we tasted in the winery were wonderful and the staff was very helpful. We enjoyed a picnic on the grounds in the picnic area, also.

“pretty ok”

i don't know that the trip out to see this was really worth it. i wanted to see a plantation, and it's definitely different from what you experience in downtown nashville and the surrounding neighborhoods. but for me it was just so-so and a little pricey. the highlight was the delicious wine-tasting at the end! yum.
