We really enjoyed our tour of this beautiful mansion which is located within Belmont University. Our docent was very knowledgeable about this antebellum home and its first owner, Adelicia Acklen. Adelicia was one interesting, determined woman who lived an interesting life! Our tour was about an hour long. We would recommend others to see this ornate home with many pieces of art.

Wow, what a manor. The in house tour was extensive and professional. Great job on presenting a lesson on civil war history and the grand lady that built this wonderful estate.

If you are a history buff, then this is a place for you. Even if you are not, the story of Adelicia Acklen would make the trip worthwhile. Such an intelligent woman for her day, and very determined to hang on to her money. She had her 3 husbands sign pre-nuptial agreements before anyone even knew what they were. The mansion itself is a fascinating look at how the wealthy lived before, during and after the Civil War. The house is constantly being renovated as funds become available. They just completed Adelicia's bedroom on the second floor and it is beautiful.
The staff are very knowledgeable about the house, its owners and the Nashville area. The house is located on the grounds of Belmont University, so it was nice to walk the grounds after our mansion tour was over. Allow at least 2 hours to view the home and grounds.

The docent did a great job giving family history and history of the Mansion, I would have loved to have had more information on the artifacts and art in the Mansion. Our tour of the house lasted approx 30-45 minutes, (they were preparing for a wedding) and then we visited the bell tower and grounds. Very beautiful.

While I enjoyed every minute of the tour and learning the history - my friends weren't as happy. I would recommend this place for true historians and folks interested in historic restoration.
