“Perfect peaceful position and relaxing retreat”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

We spent just one day at beautiful Oscars on the Yarra and loved every minute of our getaway. From the initial friendly email correspondence, to a slightly early check in to the best king room available (room 16 if you can get it) and an agreed late check out - our experience was first class all the way.

Oscars is perfectly positioned by the Yarra river on a quiet estate a few minutes drive from Warburton village. The property has been totally renovated recently to a very high standard. Our room, whilst compact, had a gorgeous view over the river from its private balcony. The king size bed was so comfortable, the decor of the room was modern and appealing, and the bathroom had a great deep bath (with shower over it) for a relaxing soak. Tea & coffee making in the room was welcome, as were the wine glasses which were put to good use. There is no fridge in the room though.

We dined at the on site restaurant and enjoyed our meals. It is a limited menu but fortunately had 2 fish options, as we do not eat meat, both were very good. We chose to take a cheese platter back to our room which was happily accommodated.

The included breakfast was very good but served too early for a weekend, breakfast stops at 9.30am. My scrambled eggs were delicious. Coffee is filter type individual sachets which you make yourself using the kettle, and was surprisingly good. In addition to a limited hot selection there was the usual continental selection of cereals, breads, pastries, yoghurt and fruit. We were more than satisfied.

We left Oscar's feeling totally relaxed and well nourished - but wished we could have stayed longer. Highly recommended to travellers from overseas and locals alike. We Aussies appreciated hearing the kookaburras' laughter and enjoying our Yarra river in such scenic surrounds.

Room Tip: Try for room 16 - has own private balcony

After booking into another hotel in the area which turned out to be below standard we decided to stay at Oscar's. On arriving we were greeted by the manager who was friendly and very efficient. Booking in was fast and easy. We were escorted to rooms which were small but more than adequate couldn't have been any cleaner and very comfortable.
There were lovely sitting rooms around with open fires going.
Dinner was excellent and was brought out at the same time done to perfection to everyone's specifications!
Breakfast was great as well.
All the staff were great.
This was a very pleasant weekend made all the better by Oscar's and it's beautiful hotel.

This is a magnificent property. Tastefully refurbished throughout and excellent accommodation. But all the mod cons are pointless unless the bed is exceptional... it was. A restful, peaceful night after a magnificent a la carté dinner at their fine dining restaurant. Delicious pork belly caesar, followed by Yellowfin Tuna (cooked to perfection) and a lemon curd tart to die for!

With the Yarra River at their doorstep, I'd suggest Oscar's is one of Melbourne's hidden gems.

Beautiful property in a gorgeous location, Room was clean and comfortable, although bath was a little small. The rooms are more modern than the bathroom and a double bath could be fitted in the spa, which would take our accommodation up to another level. A really comfortable bed so a great night's sleep was had.

Meal in the restaurant was delicious and service was great. In fact, the service overall was excellent from the moment we arrived and were welcomed.

Lovely roaring fire in the lounge area. Grounds were stunning, shame it rained.

We stayed overnight in preparation for the Lilydale-Warburton rail ride and it was just what we needed to relax, rest and invigorate before we set up.

Would definitely stay again if in the area. Probably wouldn't bring children though.

We stayed, and got married, at Oscar's in May 2013.

From our first contact with Belinda, one of the Directors, who assisted us superbly with our wedding arrangements throughout, we knew we had found a very special place where everybody cared.

The accommodation is of very high quality with just the right blend of traditional charm and modern quirkiness and the building is surrounded by beautifully presented grounds and stunning scenery just beyond. Wildlife abounds in the grounds.

Mark, the chef, produces superb fine dining dishes, whether for a wedding breakfast or simply for breakfast.

Carl, the manager, and his team provide very high quality, attentive yet unobtrusive service and a warm welcome.

We were absolutely delighted with the whole experience and whole-heartedly commend Oscar's as THE PLACE TO STAY and dine in the Yarra valley.

After visiting Warburton for the day we got told about this place so dropped in on the way home. The owner was super friendly and helpful so we decided to book a room for the following week as we were doing the rail-trail.

The place is immaculate...i thought it was new and was surprised to hear it was recently renovated and very old. Its very comfortable and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The grounds were stunning too. The biggest highlight was the dinner. The food was some of the best ive had and it was very reasonably priced. In fact for what you get for the money this place really delivers (which is rare nowadays!).

Will definitely be back :o)

Our extended family had a weekend at Oscars on the Yarra to celebrate our mother's 80th birthday. We had stayed here almost 10 years ago so our return was nostalgic, but this is now quite a few stars higher than it used to be. We had a wonderful and memorable weekend that has gone down in family history. We ate dinner on the Saturday night in the restaurant and the food, its presentation and the service was excellent. Our dietary restrictions were very well catered for. The breakfasts were also great. The rooms were very tastefully redecorated and the beds very comfortable. In all aspects of our stay the service was excellent -and all staff were friendly and very helpful. It was above and beyond our expectations.
