“Really lovely place and good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2012

This was the only hostel in the Mornington Peninsula area and therefore the cheapest option. We paid for a double ensuite room as it was only a little more than a shared double. It was about $80 each per night which was comparable to the other accommodation options which were starting from $150 per night but these were luxury places with breakfast included.
We arrived at the hostel, it was tucked away and slightly hidden by a large hedge. The driveway led downwards where there was a big puddle from the torrential rainstorm the day before.
There wasn't much parking space but we managed to squeeze into behind the kitchen.
The lady who greeted us was really friendly and helpful. Top marks for her!
She also recommended the spa to us for cold and wet days like this.

The hostel had a really nice and MASSIVE communal kitchen, dining and lounge area. There was a log fireplace, magazines, TV, DVD player and plenty of space to store your food in the fridge. There was also cupboard space to put your dry food.
Outside there was a wooden decked patio that led out into a cool bushland garden. There was a bbq and some chopped wood outside - it was not the weather for a bbq so we didn't get a chance to use it. The view was fabulous though.

The ensuite double room was lovely. Big queen size bed (least it felt like it), 3 or 4 different kinds of pillows/cushions, a chair, a radiator, cupboard space, dressing table and blinds on the windows.
The bathroom had a tiled shower, toilet and sink with hand soap. It also had a cool skylight - the place was awesome! There was also a big fluffy bath towel each, face towel and a bathmat towel.

The noise was not a problem at this hostel as there was hardly anybody staying there over the winter. However, we could hear people from the kitchen so on busy nights I imagine ear plugs would come handy. There is a door between the communal area and the rooms that helps keep the noise down but this is often left open.
There is NO WIFI internet so bring your own! We couldn't find any internet access anywhere nearby either during our travels but lived without it.

The place was ALWAYS cleaned by staff, perhaps a bit too much but I guess there's not much else for them to do on off-peak times!

Enjoyed our stay and would definitely come again!

Room Tip: Bring your own internet! You definitely need a car to make the most of the area. Public transport is...

I stayed here for three nights on a solo bike tour around Mornington Peninsula, and then onwards via the ferry to Queensliff and round the bay to Geelong. It was my second visit, and I have been very happy both times. The management and team go out of their way to accommodate and welcome you, and whilst it may not have the facilities of a more modern and larger hostel, it's cosiness and location more than make up for it. You'll find it at the far end of town, an easy 5 minute walk away, and around 15 minutes to the town beach, plus only a 30 minute stroll to the back beaches on the Ocean side. It is an ideal base to explore the area from, especially the Point Nepean National Park. It has a shady outdoor garden and eating area (which if you were being fussy, you might say needs a bit of TLC), and a large kitchen and lounge. The only downsides for me were some of the other guests... my next door neighbour was frankly bonkers on the first night and woke me up several times, and some tradies were staying the third night, who were really friendly, but were sprawled all over the settee by the fire when I got up for my breakfast, where they had chosen to spend the night for some reason. Some bizarre kiwi woman was also using the kitchen to recruit for her cult sect Avartar or something one morning... which was weird. Entertaining though!

Room Tip: Not next to a mad woman, if you can help it.
