The Searoad Ferries from Sorrento to Queenscliff is super big and have multiple levels of transportation (Humana & vehicles). One of the big ferries (not ships) I saw and traveled in.

Thank you for your great review. The ferries are quite large and can take up to 75 vehicles and 700 passengers. There are 24 crossings a day - every hour on the hour from 7am to 6pm, making travelling very convenient. Cars drive on and drive off, no turning required, so simple and easy. The 40 minute crossing is a great alternative to the drive around the bay. And dolphin spotting is optional!

Hope to see you onboard again soon.

Leanne

We parked the car nearby and as foot passengers caught the ferry from Sorrento across to Queenscliff. On board there is plenty of seating, toilets, a cafe and a bar. The 40 minute trip was quite smooth. Once on the other side, it is a short walk along a well made path up into the town of Queenscliff with its historic old hotels and main street containing cafes and galleries. If you don't want to walk that far, there are places to eat and a marine centre near the ferry port. The ferries leave from both sides on the hour, so it is easy to remember when to get back. As the ferries run continually we did notice some litter building up in the seating areas.

The afternoon started with a brunch at Woodfrog Bakery in St Kilda. Highly recommended.

We drove along the foreshore from St Kilda to Portsea and looked at some of scenic places along the way.

It was a casual cruise and most enjoyable. At Portsea we decided to take the Ferry to Queenscliff.

The ferry experience was so easy. We arrived 20 minutes before bought tickets and 20 minutes later we were sitting in the Ferry”s cafe.

The day was overcast and sunny. There was a gentle swell. Watching the bay and the towns was relaxing experience.

The coffee shop had nice coffee and other refreshments. I enjoyed the historic info posters on the walls.

The on boarding and off boarding was easy by following the staff direction. A great experience. We completed the day with a cruise through the Bellarine and the short one hour trip from Geelong to Melbourne.

A trip that is pleasant and very enjoyable. More stops can be made if you leave earlier.
The Flying Brick Cider Brewery is a good place to stop on the Bellarine.

A great 40 minute ferry journey with spectacular scenery as you pass by the Port Phillip Bay heads. We booked online and the process of driving onto the ferry was hassle free … both getting on at Queenscliff and getting off at Sorrento. A very professional service. Would certainly take the ferry again if we get the opportunity.

Really enjoyed taking the ferry. Not very busy, easy to get on and off with car and nice ship. Comfortable lounge and even had a sandwich.

Really like the driving it saved us. Put us in great shape for starting the Great Ocean Road.

Nice drive from Phillips Island to Sorrento. Just arrive 30 minutes before the ferry which leaves on the hour. It's not the most scenic ferry but still fun.

I would definitely do this again.

Thank you for the lovely review. The ferry crossing is a great alternative to the 200km drive around the bay and a nice way to connect the Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island. Hopefully next trip you will spot a dolphin or two.

Why would you bother driving through all that city traffic when you can just hop aboard the ferry to get from one side of the bay to the other?
Walk ons really cheap
Bikes free
Leaves every hour
Has food and drinks
Massage chairs
Amazing views inside and out
Big enough you don’t feel sick
Plenty of seating
Smooth on and off board for cars
Flexible travel times for returns
Great parking

These ferries take people and cars across the port Philip bay heads linking both sides of port Philip bay , a little costly but well worth a trip just for the experience

Thank you for your great review. The ferries run hourly everyday and are convenient and easy to use. But it is the spectacular views of clifftop mansions, rugged coastlines, dolphin and passing ships along with a smooth sail that make it worthwhile. And of course the 40 minute crossing is very relaxing compared with the 3 hour plus drive around the bay through city traffic and on toll roads.

Hope to see you onboard again soon.

Leanne
