This place is a little hard to get to, but so worth the trip. It is about an hour from Johnson City and maybe 20 minutes from Mountain City. It is small, so make reservations. The food is all fresh and homemade. The owner is from italy by way of south america and florida. The alfredo was simpley the best we have ever had. BYOB. The deserts are fabulous. They serve either family style of individual entrees.

The best Italian meal that has ever crossed my lips! Do not be fooled by the exterior of this restaurant because the food is fabulous! Make sure you call for reservations because seating is limited! Most authentic Italian you will find for miles and miles, you may have to travel to Italy to get it any better!

Matteo, the owner/chef of this intimate establishment is someone who obviously loves what he does -- and he does it superbly! All of the dishes are freshly prepared to order, imaginative, and done with obvious attention to detail. Flavors blend into a subtle and complimentary mingling of spices and sauces, none of which tends to overshadow the other -- allowing you to experience recipes which have been honed to perfection. A native of Italy, this excellent chef shares the delights of his homeland with those fortunate enough to have discovered his little oasis. Prices are reasonable, portions more than adequate, and reservations are definitely recommended. This is a hidden gem that goes well beyond what you might anticipate -- it is not to be missed. If you love Osso Buco, it can be done for you, but you will need to call well ahead of time for Matteo to order the meat -- fresh is paramount in this chef's book! For reference, La Cucina is BYOB and cash only.

This experience was wonderful and completely unexpected! I felt like I was eating in Matteo's kitchen. Everything was truly wonderful. "Dolly" was warm and attentive and explained each item on the menu perfectly. Everything is made in house (except for 1 thing!). We had a large table, ordered several things and passed them around. We were all thrilled. Friends had dined here numerous times and told us about this gem of a place in the middle of nowhere. From the ciabatta to the lasagna - with just a touch of nutmeg - everything was exceptional, but the burrata was outstanding!

This place does not even look like a restaurant, but a little small white house out in the middle of nowhere. It is so quaint. It makes is seem like you are in someone's home and they are fixing you the best homemade Italian you have ever touched your tongue to. We had reservations and I would strongly recommend you do because it is so small, I am sure it fills up quick. My party and I started with the meatball appetizers, which were two huge meat balls, which we ordered more to share. Excellent. Then we did a family style of three entrees. The lasagna, the arrabiata shrimp, and the truffle ravioli. My favorite was the ravioli. We all shared and got to taste everything. The experience was wonderful. The only thing is that they only accept cash. So be sure you go to the ATM before.
