We stopped at the Queenscliff hotel for a Sunday lunch. They offer a 2 course meal for $29. There were some nice options. I ate the seafood linguine while my wife chose a salmon and salad nicoise. The service was friendly and the food was delicious.
The servings were large and neither of us could finish our meals.
I love the style and ambience of the place. I would recommend it.

We called by for coffee and cake on a Sunday arvo.
The little old man that "greeted?" us should have been enough to warn us off.
The service of ALL the staff was appalling, and a smile on their faces was nowhere to be found.
The coffee can only be described as "sour and bitter" a reflection of the owner perhaps.
The young girl from the kitchen who delivered them, actually apologised and said that the coffee machine was from the ark.
The only saving grace, was that the cake was actually very nice.
As we were leaving, and having a quick look throughout the place, we noticed that there were no bar staff to be seen, or a bar that was actually open. It would appear that only boutique bottled beer is on sale, with prices to match.
Thanks.....you made the decision to NOT book a room for the night so much easier.

We went on a quiet Monday night and were a little dubious as there was very little open in Queenscliff.
We could not have been more wrong... A charming warm environment greeted us and the manager was serving.
I had the evening special of the entree of local mussels in a rich tomato broth.... Stunning! Followed by a simple chicken pie with green salad... Perfectly cooked with a flaky crust!
Antoinette had the baby octopus salad... I could tell it was good due to her reluctance to share! Her main was a seafood linguini .... The small portion was more than ample... It would take quite an appetite to get through the large portion.
We chose a local Chardonnay ..Scotsman hill..which was a great balance for the seafood and chicken.
On a quiet night staff can be more attentive ( though in many restaurants that doesn't happen) and we left feeling like we were old friends! A great night out!

Queenscliff Hotel is an heritage-listed hotel built in the late 1880's in Queenscliff, a quiet seaside resort only one and a half hours from Melbourne, to which the rich used to escape during summer. The building is visually magnificent, with most downstairs rooms retaining sensitively renovated Victorian architectural features and appropriate-to-the-period furniture, furnishings and artwork.

Four of us visited the Hotel for lunch last week, including two friends from England. Beforehand we spent a fascinating 15 minutes watching a scene being filmed for Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries Series 2, as filming was taking place in Gellibrand Street, directly front of the building. Being in the right place at the right time was quite coincidental, but the scene acted as a wonderful introduction to the era as we walked up the hotel's steps and through the front door into the building's wonderful interior.

We had decided to eat in the hotel after noticing online that the lunch menu included vegetarian, lactose-free and gluten-free dishes, which suited all our tastes. Lunch was served in the Courtyard Restaurant/Bar, which was a little more modern in decor than the front, traditional section of the hotel. It was a very hot day so we chose to sit inside, but through the French doors we could see several tables set in a pleasant garden courtyard. The lunch menu offered a choice of two courses, from entree, main course and dessert, for a very reasonable $29. Drinks were extra though not expensive and the local house wines we ordered were very pleasant.

The meal itself was lovely. The locally-sourced seafood was a real delight - succulent mussels and beer-battered flathead fillets - but others in our party also enjoyed the vegetable soup, home-made chicken and vegetable pie (fabulous pastry) and mushroom risotto. As all dishes were clearly cooked to order we had plenty of time to relax and talk before and between courses.

For two hours we thoroughly enjoyed both the historical surroundings and leisurely meal, before leaving with regret but just in time to catch the totally 21st century ferry over to Sorrento.

Food with flavour
Seafood risotto with real pieces of fish and shellfish!
Liked it so much had it 3n nights in a row
Good selection of European beers
