My husband and I decided to stay here for our 25th wedding anniversary. What a beautiful historic place. We would like to say thank you to the amazing staff, not only for upgrading our room to the bay view room, but for there professionalism and warmth. The room was amazing. The food was excellent, the service was impeccable and the waiters were charming. Its the only restaurant we have ever been to where the side of bread just keeps on coming. they could not have done anymore to make our stay more memorable.. This hotel has a very historic feel to it, learn about it and appreciate the history of it. Thank you very much to the staff. We will be back.

Room Tip: Stay in the bay view room

We stayed here for a night over the Easter and really enjoyed it. Yes it's not super modern in the rooms, but it's comfortable and you get the feeling that it's well looked after and cared for. All the staff we came across seemed to really make an effort to be friendly and make us feel welcome. Dinner was delicious, along with the service, we slept really well inside the spacious room and loved the old feel of the hotel. Loved it. We'd come back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend for a charming weekend away!

The overnight stay we had when at the Vue Grand was excellent and we felt both welcomed and very comfortable the whole time. The experience of our stay totally met our expectations in every respect. The dinner was fantasic and the waiter was very charming as was the other staff. We will be back.

The Vue Grand is in a good central, main street position, you can not miss it, but once you step inside you realise that many years have passed since it was truly grand. Today it needs some serious money spent on it to live up to its name.

Our room and spa ensuite (ground floor) were both large and clean but very tired looking and in need of a compete refurbishment, from carpet to bathroom taps and everything else in between. Having said that, the bed was large (kingsize?), clean, comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was help yourself in the large diningroom with a good variety of juices, breads, cereals and the usual choice of cooked food.

This place was very disappointing, not only with the price for the supposed 'ambience' and the need of a total refurbishment, but also with the basic everyday house cleaning. In the diningroom where breakfast is served is some lovely old furniture but the large buffet/sideboard at the end of the room needs a bloody good dusting. Sitting facing the buffet/sideboard from half way down the room you couldn't miss seeing the dust sitting on the shelf underneath, and you could tell from where we sat that it wasn't just a couple of days worth. Up the staircase is a snug area that you can sit and/or gather with friends with tea/coffee making facilities. We met up with our friends at about 4:30 pm, when we arrived there was dirty cups/plates neatly stacked on the sink and a bit of food smeared on the coffee table (fair enough, the previous people may of only left 5 minutes or so before we got there).... but those same cups/plates and our own cups/plates were still there on the sink, and the coffee table still hadn't been wiped at 11am the next day. Very poor effort for a place with the word 'Grand' in its name.

If the staff haven't the time to check and clean these public areas regularly then more staff is needed. There is on doubt the place could be very 'grand' again, but money will have to spent to return her to true grandeur. When that happens, we will return.

At the price we were expecting a nice big room, comfortably fitted out and in good condition. In room 33 there was barely enough room to squeeze past the enormous bed they'd somehow managed to jam in to the room to get to the rundown bathroom. There were dead insects in the light fittings, there was exposed wiring poking out of the ceiling, the carpet was threadbare, the tinyl tv which didn't have much reception anyway, was perched on top of a fridge in the corner of the room with a remote that was held together with bits of cardboard and sticky tape. The hanging space was tiny, the bathroom furniture was shabby and some of the other fitting were just plain broken. We were gudgingly moved to Room 14 after some argy bargy with the reception staff who seemed to think that guests arriving to see a performance of Fawlty Towers the next night might be upset if they had to spend a night in room 33...I wonder why!
Room 14 was a bit bigger so there was room to get in and out of the enormous bed and overall it was better fitted out but was still in pretty poor condition; even considering the age of the hotel. on a more positive note is a beautiful old building, the dining room and foyer are charming spaces and it is in a great location right in the centre of town. The breakfast was excellent with lots of hot and cold options and no shortage of food.
No doubt there are some lovely rooms in this hotel but we weren't in one of them and nor were the two lovely old dears locked in argument with the receptionist about their room as we were checking out.
I've stayed in hotels all over the world ranging from rat infested fleapits for the desperate up to the grand luxury of the 5 star playground for the rich and pointless and I would say that this hotel represents the poorest value for money that I've come across in a long time.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms facing into the courtyard... these seem to be where complaints about the noise are c...

Stayed a night at the Vue to celebrate a wedding in Queenscliff.

Rooms:

The room itself is a decent size, but is in need of a renovation. The carpets were old and smelly and the showers are plain nasty.

The only thing good about the room was the comfortable king size beds. The wedding reception held downstairs was blasting music until the early hours of the morning - it was so loud we felt like the DJ was spinning in our bedroom!

Location:

The location of the hotel is the best thing about the place, it's situated right in the middle of the main strip.

Breakfast:

Breakfast was OK, suprishingly there was a nice selection of hot and cold food. Breakfast was the second best thing about this hotel.

Overall:

Do yourself a favour and drive home rather then staying here. For the price it is not worth it at all.

Room Tip: Our room on the second level next to the fire escape was larger than others (according to the hotel...

The hotel is wonderfully located in the heart of Queenscliff and I constantly found myself thinking about what it would have been like in its heyday. It is a lovely, old building but is very tired and in need of a complete renovation.

We stayed in a standard double which was very small and had not been decorated or updated for a number of years. The $200 per night cost, including breakfast, appeared good value for money before our stay but ended up seeming quite expensive. The bathroom particularly was very disappointing with fittings that do not belong in this century.

There were some positives though. The staff were all very friendly and helpful during our stay and we thought that the breakfast was above average. The bed was also of a very high quality and we would have both slept soundly had the old fridge not been so noisy!

I understand that the investment to modernise the Vue Grand would be immense but the buildings deserve some love.
