This really took me back to the 'olden days' as my daughter tends to say... Very interesting and I could sense the life here in early years so much more... worth a visit.

Thank Erik B

Takes you back to a time when the threat of foreign invasion by sea was considered high.

Trying to break into this place even today would be difficult but that's the way its been for 150 years.
The views as you will see from the pictures are amazing but then that's part of the reason why the Fort is located here.
Today Fort Queenscliff is still an active base but mainly focused on training. They run tours daily for a small fee & you get to hear some great stories about the history of the fort & australia. Such as the guns at this fort fired the first shots by australia in both world wars. Another about the firing of a gun in the 1980's lead to that being stopped because although it was small shot it still blew out windows in town.
Part of the tour takes you around the lighthouses on the fort. The way they were built is amazing in itself but when you consider era they were built in it all the more amazing. There are two lighthouses & ships line them up out to sea before making the turn into the narrow deep channel in the bay.
We went underground into the magazines which was cool & damp, being the first tour of the day we got to smell what its like in there with no fresh air. There is also an area where you can dress up & get your photo taken with some old machine guns.
At the end of the tour you can spend as long as you want having a look through the displays in the museum itself.
This was a fun tour & a great look at part of australias history.
