“What a let down...”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

I managed to secure a night at the Grange at a big discount as they made a pricing mistake on lastminute.com.au. I paid $60 for what supposed to $360, and to be honest, it wasn't even worth the $60. And I was treated like I was being punished for their mistake. After dealing with the sour puss on reception, I was shoved in the far end room overlooking the driveway whilst the place was virtually empty. And I was put in a room where the heating did not work at all. And then they had the gall to assume I'd stay in that room once they supplied a little oil heater that did nothing so i had to demand a new room. The website photo's are severely misleading as it is extremely dated and in need of a major renovation. If thinking of staying here, DON'T DO IT, YOU'LL ONLY BE DISAPPOINTED AND EMPTY POCKETED FOR YOUR TROUBLE!

Portsea is the most amazing seaside suburb, you can see why it is one of the most expensive suburbs in Melbourne. Unfortunately The Grange does not live up to this standard. It is a hotel stuck in an 80s time zone, I mean there is nothing modern about this hotel, it is seriously in need of makeover. To make matters worst, nothing has been maintained, the heater in the bedroom didn't work and it is winter, the bed was two single beds stuck together, the mattresses would be 20 years old, they were flat, you feel the springs and worst I had the edge of the mattress digging into my side. Pillows were flat and smelt if cooking oil, gentian blinds are mostly wrecked, phone was so 20 years old, couch in lounge room was so old that when you sat on it the springs squeaked like a bed it looked like a couch that dogs would sleep on. The kitchen and bathroom are so outdated, hotwater in shower took 20 minutes to warm up and temperature kept changing, shower is in the bath, no safety mat or rail, heating system in apartment was warm but seemed to blow cold air and finally tv is an old box that had a fuzzy picture. The lady on reception has no personality, she doesn't care. There us no room service or breakfast in the morning, no bag service to room. Good points are undercover lock up garage, appearance outside looks good, great location. I can't believe that hotels like this still exist with this pricing.

Rooms were large and spacious but the attitude on the desk was nothing short of sour and unwelcoming; the price was ridivculous for winter ($300+ for one night); despite a credit card guarantee they wanted their money in full before you received your key and the kick out time is 10.00 am! Never again. The place also looks somewhat tired and dated.

Oh my god I stayed get for business. The manager is one of the most stubbin and rude people I have ever met.
Who ever owns this place should take a long hard look at who they have running it and reavaluate your choice on managers.
The pricing is out of control as they think that because they are the only place in town the can charge $450 per night for something that does not even have air con my god get a grip.
If you want value for money try and get into dalgani house a bit more expensive but you get a luxury I mean luxury plus with 3 bedrooms and no expense spared on the finer furnishings that one would like in life.
Good luck if this is the only place you can get into.

Stayed at The Grange for 2 nights whilst on business.

The location is very good for Portsea, right in the heart of this small seaside town.

2 minute walk to beach, hotel, small shops.

The rooms, whilst large, are fairly dated and in need of a make-over. The common areas are also a bit tired and could do with some updating.

The staff were OK - they weren't rude or anything, just a bit "bland".

Free WiFi available which was OK

I love Portsea when it is busy, but mid week and out of season it is very quiet at night. Suggest staying in Sorrento if you would like more choice to restaurants/pubs/night life etc
