“Phillip Island”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2010

Great place for either a day trip or overnight. Not much to do here except the Penguin parade - those little penguins are adorable and worth the long drive down. The town closes early, it's pretty dead, food was ok. I'm from NY so not that impressed with the food. It was decent. Drove down from Melbourne and stayed at the Island Accommodation (http://theislandaccommodation.com.au/), which is really why i'm writing this review. My husband and I have never stayed at hostels before (b/c of bed bugs), we always stay at starwoods when we can. We saw some pics of this place and thought it would be a fun experience, nice way to meet people. This place is new, everything smelled and looked new. We got upgraded to an ensuite. It was very clean. The media rooms, common space, and kitchen was very nice, clean, and spacious. Defintely worth staying. We met some lovely people in the kitchen who were celebrating some bday and shared some cheese & snacks with us.

This purpose built Eco-friendly aware place (power & water wise) opened in April 2010 & its’ modern feel is evident throughout. The building is 4 storeys (serviced by stairwell & elevator): ground level is reception, laundry, internet room; first level has rooms; second floor has rooms & a huge kitchen, TV room & entertainment room; & the top floor is the sun deck. I found the rooms decadent: faux leather settee & bed head board with a QS bed (made with crisp linen) & wall mounted flat screen TV. The room had a wind-out window, heater (on a timer) & fan.I had an ensuite bathroom, which was very modern. However there was no liquid soap in the dispenser & no towels/bathmats (or options to hire). I had my own towel however no bath mat – which meant the bathroom floor got very wet once you exited the shower & you tended to dry yourself in the bedroom (which was carpeted & safer). Their website promotes the accommodation as “for those who enjoy hotel comfort” & given the money you pay ($155pn) - you would expect a towel. But the worst thing was the water pressure in the shower: it was terrible! Great availability of onsite car parking. I had full next G reception with my personal mobile internet. However wireless internet is available for a surcharge. The owner was very helpful & friendly, going into detail on a map about what to see & do on the island. Given my limited time, I was only able to visit the Nobbies at the Phillip Island Nature Reserve, the Grand Prix Circuit & the chocolate factory.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, and for your observations. Our Studio Suites have towels and a bathmat included in the price and should have been in your room. We are sorry to hear this was not the case. As our complex is of an environmentally sustainable design, we consider the environment in all aspects of our business. We originally had water saving shower heads installed, which did affect our shower pressure. We have recently changed all of our shower heads to newer model water savers, and our shower pressure has improved as a result. Thank you for your comprehensive review, we appreciate your feedback :)
