“Alpine Hotel just a pass”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

Stayed in a standard room with double bed and ensuite. Room was very small and whilst we had tea and coffee facilities it was all very tight to enjoy. We stayed with only a few workers on site, I would suggest that this accomodation would be very noisy if full of people. As far a location goes you are 50 metres from the restaurant and next door to a cafe and mtb hire. I would stay here again only if I was aware that there were no other people staying, as you can hear doors closing and footsteps in the corridor. For the budget minded, take ear plugs and be prepared to bump into each other, but everything is at your door. Mt Baw Baw is a lovely spot and this hotel deserves some TLC and then it would be great.

I supposed this is a budget hotel and so, it was okay for budget traveller. The room that I booked is for two, and it's quite small. Only about a metre space between beds, and the bathroom is quite small. It was not really much of a problem since spent most of the time outside and went back just to sleep. But the music outside can be super loud.

Woollybutt Cabin. This cabin is accommodation for skiers in winter, but served us exceptionally well for a night after spending the day walking on the mountain mid-summer. As Melbourne sweltered in 37 deg, we only reached 24 deg up here so it was a good choice for us. The cabin has a full kitchen, with a large fridge/freezer, and is clean and modern with a huge flatscreen TV. Although we were only two, it can sleep 4, and would be very good value for a family.

Room Tip: We had a stand alone cabin "Woollybutt".

Stayed 2 nights. Room has no storage or hanging space. Less than a metre space between bed and wall. Bedside lamp had no sockets in which to plug cord. Would not stay again. Cafe and bar are ok but lack atmosphere. Staff was super friendly and clearly hardworking. They are a credit to the resort.

Hi Cristinah
Thank you for visiting the Resort. The Alpine Hotel is one of many properties owned by the Resort and is considered our 'budget' Hotel. Over the coming months we are looking at re-furbishing the rooms in preparation for 2013 so that there is increased storage space, a fresh coat of paint, new linen and overall a more aesthetically appealing interior. When you visited, which I'm assuming was recently, is during the Summer when the Cafe and bar are closed (with the exception of event weekends). During winter when there is snow there is definitely more of an atmosphere! We do hope you return to Mt Baw Baw again at some stage

Not told about the loud music.
Ridiculous that a hotel room should be located above a dj playing techno music. It thumbed through the pillow.
I agree with the other reports.

Tip
Hire toboggans before you arrive at mountain. You can then stack your luggage on toboggans and pull along. Much easier then carriing

We arrived and were happy with the location.... a short walk throughthe snow from the carpark. It's an ordinary building, but OK. We went into our double room, which according to the floor plan on the back of the door was a morre generous size than most. It was tiny but we could live with that because we knew other people we could visit elsewhere. The Hotel has no guest lounge. If you need to spreadout in the building, there is just the cafe or the pub.
Everything went downhill from there. We stayed for the weekend. There is no sound proofing. You hear the other guests moving around. Friday night's partying in the pub was noisy and didn't allow much sleep. Saturday night was a disaster. The bed was shaking and the windows rattling from the music downstairs. It didn't stop till 2am.
If you want a good night's sleep, think twice before you stay here!!

We stayed here during the Christmas in July celebrations. The hotel is in such an excellent location that you can literally wheel your luggage to it from the carpark. Our triple room was tiny, but contained what we really needed, being beds for 3 people and the tiniest of bathrooms, warmth, plus a window which can be opened when the thermostatless heating gets out of control, sauna like. We were warned at the time of booking that there would be noise from a DJ and a live band downstairs during our stay there, but the loudest, thumping bass rhythm beating deep into my chest cavity from 10pm to 2am really was not very therapeutic. My children also laughed themselves to death when I suddenly awoke singing "Crocodile Rock", which was deeply embedded into my soul from 1971, along to the loudest band in the World, incidentally playing it downstairs, directly under our room at about 1am on our second night there. This loud music, was, though something which only happens on weekend nights. The other nights, with the window partly open, were peaceful and lovely, and it seemed as we could almost see the whole Universe through our window while gazing at the larger than life stars and planets and the almost full moon. I do think, though, that if you packed your earplugs, or were someone who usually retires after 2am, this would be a perfect, budget place to stay at Mt Baw Baw, as there is a warm, inviting lounge downstairs, from where food can be purchased at any time of the day.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are upstairs, and there is no lift or wheelchair access. The corridor is also narro...
