Description: The Rocks offers the mornington peninsula a unique fresh air dining experience with an absolute waterfront setting. Two separate dining environments, the dining room and the covered deck, provide the perfect location to celebrate life. Our seafood focussed menu offers flavours from across the world and whereever possible our seafood is selected following the principles behind sustainability. Put simply, the fish on your plate, be it farmed or wild caught, has had researched minimal impact upon fish populations or our wider marine environment. A move we hope you support. The Rocks is fully licensed and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days per week throughout the year.Reservations can be made for the dining room (for any time of the day) or for the deck (for dinner only), and are advised.

“Great views, food could improve.”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

My wife and I went here and were immediately impressed with the view from our table. We were lucky that it was a warm, still and clear night and we could look right across the bay to the Melbourne city skyline while we munched on a great selection of small entree sized meals; sashimi, oysters (natural, the kilpatrick were awful), vegetarian dumplings and some wicked folded tortilla type things with black beans and corn.
However, the food dipped in quality the larger the plates got. I've never had a bowl of mussels that I couldn't finish until that night while my wife's mixed seafood dish with XO sauce was decent but lacked a direction in flavor as too much was crammed in to too much.
Now that I know a bit more about The Rocks I will go back but just focus on the smaller meals.

“Great view, great food worth the price”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

The Rocks maybe a bit hard to find - it is upstairs and actually part of the yacht club building. Enter by a wooden staircase off the pier walkway skirting the marina. Summer the view is the quintessential Mornington Peninsula glory - blue water, maybe a few whitecaps, bobbing boats, sand and beach huts. If windy or in winter there are cafe curtains (and heaters) to ensure a comfortable experience, but not nearly the ambience of the open air (and perhaps not worth the $$$ in that weather). If you are happy to spend around $50 for two for a breakfast of eggs (with one side) on crunchy toast and a mug of cappacino then this place is hard to beat. By the way the meal is well cooked and well presented also. Newspapers are laid on and there is no rush to move you on - a nice leisurely start to a day by the bay. Lunches are equally well done with an interesting menu. We have not been there for dinner but I would imagine it is equally lovely on a summer's evening (probably need to book, particularly to get an outside table.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

Food selection limited, service lacking, and the ambiance of a food hall.
Not being a big seafood person i opted for one of the steaks - mistake. They need to learn to properly trim and present meat.
Nice view over the harbour.

“Average food at best and devoid of atmosphere”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

The views are fabulous and it would be good to ask for a table on the deck to maximise that one good feature of the restaurant . The food was average at best and the service patchy and distracted. The atmosphere is one of a beach side cafe, noisy and rushed feel with no spots for relaxing dining. Wouldn't recommend for romance or chatty evening with friends, seems more aimed at the family with young children market; or people just wanting a fish and chip experience. It was our first visit to the Rocks for a year and we were very disappointed with what seemed to us to be a big decline in food and service.

“The Rocks Restaurant, Mornington”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

Fabulous meal at The Rocks, Mornington, next to the Mornington Yacht Club. There is a magical view out over the yacht harbour; the food is delicious with great wines and great service. Would highly recommend for fine dining or the more relaxed bistro area.
The wine list is varied with Italian and local Mornington Peninsula wines. The only trouble is the menu is enormous and everything sounds so good you want to try it all. But everything is delicious and we go there every birthday and anniversary for a special evening. I highly recommend The Rocks for a great night out!
