“Highly recommended for that special event”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

Crisp clean and immaculate come to mind when you enter the refurbished Royal. The atmosphere is however friendly and the staff attentive. The food certainly not pub quality but more high end with definitely an International flavour. The desserts a must and all created in house. We had a delightful time with some exceptional dishes such as the Lamb and the Fish, great presentation. If you are thinking of entree or dessert, consider forgoing the first course, you will not be disappointed !!
Overall a great experience but wonder whether it would be a little cold in Winter? Great parking off street and close walking distance from the Main Street of Mornington

“A little Expensive for what you get”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014

We went to the Royal many years ago and recently decided to go for lunch and catch up with family within the area. The Royal has been refurbished and to some extent has lost that "old worldly pub feel and charm" it used to have. Now with a little bit of a French influence, the food is a bit more upmarket than a pub and this also reflects on the increased price.
A bit too expensive for what it is but the food is nice.

“Overpriced and not very friendly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2014

Taken for lunch by a friend. Group of six people.
Prices ridiculous for what was fairly ordinary food.
Staff not very friendly even though bill came to a considerable sum which helped pay their wages.

“Great food in the old pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014 via mobile

Went there Wednesday this week with family and friends(10). Had a few pre dinner Peronis on tap, for the table an excellent Chardonnay was purchased. We started with the school prawns ,whole small prawns flash fried, crisp and so yummy we ordered more for table.we also had homemade liver wurst with buttery crunchy baguettes sensational. Various mains where ordered from up market fish and chips in their own deep fry basket, great presentation well cooked fish and hand cut chips. My main was seafood pasta. Mainly prawns, scallops ,calamari in garlicky olive oil with herbs, maybe some bread for mopping juices however still sensational. Everyone one table loved their mains. My wife and daughter shared a chocolate encased icecream bombe, I had a bit Yum. The rest had cheese and more red wines. Great night , overlooking Port Phillip bay. In the words of Arnold Swarzenger. We will be back!

“Great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2013

We went to the royal hotel last weekend for a birthday family dinner. The place has been renovated in the last couple of years but still has old charm . It has lost a little of the old pub feel in the dining area but the rest of the place stays the same . We all enjoyed our meals which varied from curry chicken to pork ribs and risotto . All plates were almost licked clean so indicates all enjoyed their meal...good food good service we will be going back !!
