I thought that the day of terrible food and service at old world pubs was over! I was proven wrong after having a family lunch one sunday, at a perfectly located pub overlooking the water in sunny morington. Standard beers on tap other than a decend pale ale, order yourself style eating, fantastic old building, terrible service and food that was, at best inediable! I don't understand how you can stuff this up! How do you fail when it comes to pub food? Keep it simple, serve it hot and within half an hour! Wow, how complicated! They are not exactly giving the food away either! What a waste of a venue! It's a pub, they have the ability to serve over 300-400 meals a sitting, so how do you stuff it up when there is 30 people in the restaurant. I hate going to these fantastically located pubs only to be disappointed at the end of the day! GET IT TOGETHER! If you can't do this right what hope have you got in this industry!

I too arrived late, it was getting dark and I had not been able to find anywhere else.
I was shown two rooms and was told the rate, while telling me the rate the man did not bat an eyelid, I could not believe how expensive it was but felt I had no choice so I stayed.
I took the least horrible room, the other one was even worse.
The only good thing was the view from the balcony, other than that there is nothing whatsoever that would justify the extortionate rate of A$ 130.
What planet are they on?
The small room was stuck in the fifties, the TV a joke, even your average motel room would have been better and at least the rate would have been more reasonable.
I agree completely with KidAndromeda's review, this hotel is rubbish!

Room Tip: Simply don't go there! And if you must then ask for a room with a balcony.

I would like to thank the Royal for a great day, before leaving Perth I read your reviews & was very worried for my Sister planned Mums surprise party & as I grew up in the area I knew how old the hotel is as Dad & I have shared a few drinks in the passed at its bar in the 70s.
When I walk in a little early I was greeted by staff & shown to our tables as it was a surpise I was shown to the public bar at the rear which is very nice & in keeping with the era it was built
in 1875 the walls had photos of the Hotel with its old stables & the Ladys in there finery sitting on the grass over looking Port Philip Bay. After entering the Main area & Dinning rooms with lovely leadlight glass doors & window I was very impressed as with the meals truley lovely & not only mine but I asked all 40 guests & all agreed. The only complaint I can make staff near the end started clearing tables including my unfinished bootle of wine. Other than that a Royal day at the Grand Old Lady of Morninton very befitting for my Grand Old Mums 80th Birthday Thank you Royal Hotel & your staff on behalf of my Family & freinds

Arriving late in Mornington, I followed the Lonely Planet guide to Melbourne & Viictoria's advice - '...tastefully renovated, offering authentic old-world accomodation...' and booked into this hotel.....
What a mistake! I should have used Trip Advisor, the last review by KidAndromeda completley sums it up and I can't better that, read it and pay attention. This hotel should not be trading as such, just avoid this place, it's dreadful, This place really is unspeakably bad. Dirty stained carpet, chipped paintwork, marks on walls, 60s fitted furniture chipped and stained, dirty ill fitting curtains, dusty lamp shade, antique 4 channel tv, humming fridge, tiny shower, bouncing bed with no headboard, cricket in air conditioner...... Honestly the Victorian balcony would have been better, lovely sea view absolutely no compensation, complete rip off.

Room Tip: Dont choose one at all

Lovely old pub looking out over the sea and 1 block from the shopping centre but if they are not going to repair it It is starting to get very run down. When they charge $155 per night and then you get told the Housemaid isn't on duty today (Tuesday) that is why the bed hasn't been made when we got back in the afternoon. The lunch on the balcony was magic in the sun, but was let down by the run down room. What a lovely building that needs some more love and care. No Breakfast served only on Sundays. very very small old T.V.
Service was good first day and then drifted to nothing

Room Tip: Room 2 had the sun coming in which is nice this time of year.
