“Great location but....”

5 knots is in a great location. You can walk along the boardwalk to the village. We had lovely views and it was quiet. However, what stopped it from being excellent was no manager/ office on site. It has all the mod cons but our room didn't have any written info ( apparently there was supposed to be an information dvd- an hour search didnt find it) on how to use the lighting, the tv, the remote blinds , heating or the hot water service. Fortunately, the views and comfy bed made up for the 2 hours it took us to work everything out

Recently spent three nights in a one bedroom apartment on level one.Nice apartment with a small verandah and bbq overlooking the bay and boat jetty area.Metung is a superb place but has generally very pricey accomodation,Good rates this time of year in some properties. The interior was nice and a reasonable size but not large.I found the kitchen not very user friendly, small work area and very high cupboards.
They do advise that the entry code will be sent to you the morning of your arrival but we only received ours about 5 minutes before the start of check in time which was 2.00pm.Tip re groceries buy what you need before arriving in Metung. There is a small corner store and a bakery that does not open everyday. Overall a relaxing place to stay.

If you're looking for a quiet getaway, away from the touristy Lakes Entrance, Metung is a good little spot.
We arrived after a long day of driving down the Great Alpine Road - we had previously stayed at another five star villa in Beechworth the night before, which I think has set the bar for our expectations of five star apartments.
In comparison, we arrived and the apartment was dark and cold; no welcome basket like one of the other reviews suggested. My husband and I were getting a little frustrated trying to work the TV/DVD, but eventually got there.
The lounge was comfy to watch a movie; the kitchen was well equipped to cook ourselves a late dinner. We both slept really well in the huge bed, and had a great spa the next morning before we left.
If you're planning to arrive later at night, be aware there's not much open in town for a snack or anything, so come prepared.
Just for anyone who has read the previous reviews and are a little worried about the access codes - we received ours on the morning of our stay. It seems to be the last four digits of your mobile number, followed by your first initial. Phone coverage at Metung (we're with Telstra) is also a little patchy, so if you haven't received your SMS before you arrive - best to call and check.
Overall, a good stay if you're looking for something in the Lakes Entrance area.

Room Tip: If you're after something with a view - we had room 2 on the ground floor, which assuming like r...

Recently stopped at 5 Knots, which we booked through an agency at a very reasonable price. The view from the 1st floor apartment was great and the furnishings were comfortable. It was a little small in terms of living area and the kitchen space was limited. No problem if you just want a basic meal, however, and the local eateries are very close by. I wouldn't plan a gourmet evening. Spacious bathroom. Some very minor noise from the downstairs apartment, which has an adjoining door. Even so, 5 Knots has a great location right on the lake; the road outside was quiet [it's a dead end with a boat ramp but didn't seem heavily used at all]; and it's easy walking distance of the hotel, restaurants and village centre. Would certainly go back. One tip: the agency that manage the units send you a key code for the door by SMS. Check your network coverage in Metung. I had to phone them direct for our keycode.

We booked a 3 night special at 5 Knots at a very reasonable rate, prices vary quite a bit at certain times of the year but that is the same for most accommodation. Our one bedroom apartment was No.2 which was on the ground floor Lake King side. The place was spotless and all furnishings and appliances were of top quality with many little extra touches. Our kitchen even had a Nespresso machine & coffee pods supplied and also quite a variety of T2 teas. Good size bathroom with a fabulous hydrotherapy spa, large shower, good supply of towels and towelling bathrobes for your use. I would like to give a special mention to the lady who cleans the rooms and does general maintenance. She was so friendly and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. The only downside was our courtyard which was surrounded by a high wooden fence which blocked off any view that we may have had. I realise that the fence was to give us privacy because we were right on the street and people could have looked into the room. If possible try to book a room on the Bancroft Bay side which had beautiful views.

Just about to finish 4 glorious days at Metung. The Gippsland Lakes at this time of year is at their best. Accommodation in Metung is readily available and choice is wide.
We choose 4 Knots Apartments from Bookings.com through Tripadvisor and had no problems with booking. However on contacting the managers (wherever they are) we were told our Room number and access code would be texted to our mobile phone the morning of our arrival. The message arrived at 2PM just before we arrived in Metung - Apartment 1plus access code to front door.
The apartment in impeccable with modern furniture and all facilities.
BUT Apartments 1 and 5 are in a basement about 3 feet below road level and the 'balcony' is enclosed by a wooden fence. 5 Knots is on the Shaving Point peninsula and the back units have absolute water frontage while the upper units have magnificent views over the lakes.
Fortunately the weather was kind and we spent 4 pleasant days exploring Lakes Entrance, Paynesville (with 2 1/2 hour cruise to Paynesville) and the Tambo Valley.
SO when you book steer clear of apartments 1 & 5 but enjoy Metung an unspoiled gem.
Ossie

Stayed at this place last week. Can recommend it as the bang for your buck is wonderful. Touches such as classy furniture and a view to die for , as well as the price , booked it on Wotif , 2 days before we went and glad we did. Metung is a cute little town and a great place to relax. Fitness centre and pool not applicable

Room Tip: 1 room lake view is great
