No longer at the Golf Club - Fareways brilliant chefs and friendly welcoming hosts (Warwick and Cas) have moved to the best restaurant location in town - the TIDE, on the corner of the Main Street in town overlooking the inlet. The food is superb from these talented young chefs, the welcome warm, the view spectacular. This has to be one of the best restaurants on the Austalian South Coast - well worth a bit of a detour off the Princes Highway when you drive from NSW into Victoria or vice versa,, or worth a special trip from wherever you are holidaying - Merimbula, Lakes Entrance - even though it might be a couple of hours drive. Or as part of a visit to Mallacoota - a hidden gem!

Good location, slightly away from town centre towards water. Decking / outside space neat & tidy. Husband had steak, I had fish both were very good.
Wine was also good, waitress friendly and chatty.
Very quiet when we were there as had a big charity even the night before (24hr walk) and most people at home!

Absolutely premium location looking out over woodland to Bottom Lake at Mallacoota. The menu is not extensive but offers reasonable choices including some vegetarian options. Use is made of locally available produce. The restaurant has a limited but quite adequate wine list and the prices are reasonable. The dining room has 'atmosphere' and a romantic dinner would be a distinct possibility. There are also tables outside and these might be preferable on a balmy summer evening. Try the Polenta entree - an excellent dish. Local beef is good too. We did not try the dessert.

Their ad said bookings advised, so we called twice during the afternoon and left messages that were not answered. Calling after 5 p.m. got someone on duty. Our seating, entree, first drink serving and the entree itself were all OK. We finished our bottle of wine, waited for 3/4 hour and asked a passing waitress what was happening to our main. She did not report back. Another guest at an adjacent table reported a similar wait. We asked at the bar again about 15 minutes later and were told it was underway. Arrived about 10 minutes later. No apology. We ordered seafood platter for 2 at $60. The chips were hot - everything else was almost stone cold. One oyster was so bad I just spat it out. The prawns were not de-veined. Even the quantity of seafood was pretty poor. We ate less than 25% and then advised the restaurant manager that we would not pay for the main and we were leaving. She stated that she was sorry we did not enjoy this meal as other guests did - so obviously it was our fault that we did not enjoy cold, "off" seafood! No apology! We found out later that friends had dined there just a week or two earlier and he had felt obliged to advise the staff that their food was s..t. I am normally quite easy going in this area, but this was atrocious food, appalling service, dreadful preparation and no acceptance of responsibility. As the only "restaurant" in Mallacoota, they must feel that they do not have to try!
