Glen Erin at Lancefield
Ranked #1 of 4 Lancefield B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 26, 2012

My wife and I stayed at The Glen Erin at Lancefield with a 2 night weekend package valued at $720.

The package was for two people staying in a Cobaw Suite with king-sized bed, en-suite and private balcony with vineyard views
Hot country breakfasts on both mornings of your stay
Plus a tapas platter to enjoy on your arrival on Friday night
A three-course dinner for two in Granges Restaurant on Saturday evening.

On checking we were informed that out Tapas Platter would be in our room which it was and the reception staff member also confirmed our dinner time for the Saturday night meal in the Grange Restaurant. I reminded that receptionist that my wife had strict dietary requirements and I was assured for a second time (email sent days earlier) that that would not be an issue.

The room was roomy and bright with views over the vineyard and the wedding chapel. The bathroom was tidy but a little dated.

My wife and I decided to purchase a bottle of wine to have with the Tapas platter, and after returning from the Cellar door I noticed a wine glasses has a large crack running down it, never mind I returned to the bar and collected a another wine glass.

That night were had a poor sleep due to the thin walls and a combination of the snoring from the next room and a mouse in the wall chewing on timber and plaster.

The next morning we had breakfast in the Grange Restaurant; there were very limited options for my wife despite being reassured that her dietary request would be met. The breakfast was a buffet with fresh fruit, cereals, hot food including eggs Benedict, scrambled egg, hash browns, grilled bacon and mushrooms. The restaurant itself was warm and welcoming with open fires and friendly staff.

After a full day of sightseeing including the local Lancefield farmers market which was very good with local vegetable, eggs, meat, cheeses and local wines we returned back to our room.

The room had been serviced in our absence and to my surprise the broken wine glass had been washed and returned to the sideboard, this was unacceptable as it showed that 1, the glasses are washed in the hand basin in the room by cleaning staff and 2, staff do not check the standard of the glasses. The soaps and hand lotion in the bathroom had also not been replaced.

That night we dined at the Grange Restaurant. On arrival we noticed that the wife’s dietary request was written in the booking book next to our booking. Once seated we were given the menus and noticed that the options listed were not allowed as part of the wife’s medical issue. It took 2 staff members to organise options for her. The restaurant service was slow; it took over 40 minutes to receive our entree’s, well over an hour for a rare steak (which arrived stone cold) and a chicken breast. Deserts were no better with our waiter returning to the table to ask us if we have has desserts as the kitchen has “stuffed up the orders”

The staff members were apologetic about the delays but with only 30 people in the restaurant, and the fact that the staff usually cater for weddings this was again unacceptable service.

The next morning we returned to the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the 4 additions that had been added to the buffet, that my wife could enjoy yet we were left wondering why they were not there yesterday....

Over all we had a nice break mainly due to the sightseeing and wine tastings but we were glad to return home.

My husband and I were married at Glen Erin in September 2012, they made our day perfect. The staff were so attentive to our needs nothing was too much. We retuned this past weekend for dinner, a nights accommodation and breakfast, what can I say we loved it everything about our weekend, the food, service all were beyond expectation.

Room Tip: No comment on pool as its winter and did not use

We recently stayed here for a 2 night weekend package. On checking in we were allocated a suite on the ground floor which, after speaking to the receptionsist, we were granted our request for a 1st floor suite (although this was apparently not the room allocated in the deal - only ground floor units were part of the deal - however the 'deal' did not stipulate this). Rooms were large and bright with comfortable bed. Bathroom was also large. Pity you needed binoculars to see the tiny TV - surely they could get a larger plasma! Now to the food - WOW! The dinner was included in our package and I cannot speak more highly of the culinary level experienced here. Food was fresh and extremely well presented, as was the service - our waitress, whose name escapes me, was amazing. This is defintely a gourmet-lovers paradise and the open fire and wonderfully white-linen draped tables with sophisticated croquery and glassware, added finesse to the meal. Breakfast, which was also included, was superb - can you believe eggs benedict with a truly amazing hollandaise sauce? This, all part of what was on offer. Add to these some delicious fruits/breads/pastries and real coffee and you have a very memorable weekend away. Thumbs up for Glen Erin - fingers crossed that they'll do something about the TV sets!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor - the ones on the ground floor make you feel stifled and are close...

Stayed as part of a business training course. Rooms are 4.5 star standard. Very clean and well appointed. Large with balcony if you are on 1st floor. All heated/cooled, and you can open windows if you prefer fresh air. Staff 5 star friendliness and 5 star service. Great attention to detail. The highlight - the meals..some of the best I've eaten anywhere. Fabulous for business offsite conferences, training, and what a great place fir wedding/ wedding receptions or just a stay in the country for a weekend! Wonderfully kept gardens. Birds, rabbits, kangaroos and usual farming livestock in the distance. Highly recommended.
